I think this could make any cancer patient or caregiver smile...

It has been over six months since my mom asked for any sort of food, or has been able to ingest more than four ounces of liquid or food at a time. It has been a very difficult road, filled with ensure, fruit and vegetable juices, broths, and tiny, tiny, tiny meals (we had a "just take two bites" agreement during her chemo and radiation).

Last Saturday, she asked me to bring her a Chicago-style hot dog and a slice of New York pizza. She got the hot dog on Monday and the pizza today, and ate them both with great joy.

I'm a vegetarian, but I told her that the happiest I've been in months was to purchase, and watch her eat, a hot dog and pepperoni pizza.

Yeah!!!! Please tell your loved ones in the middle of treatment that better days are ahead, and they're filled with junk food and joy. : )

    Great News!
You are doing a great job! It seems Mom has turned a corner - Yippee! I remember not eating, not wanting to, and the smell of food - ugh! So glad she is eating, and it shows, it will get better! Thanks for an uplifting post!

    Hey Mary!
Sorry you're not getting the support you could use. I feel that way some days too.

I think it's easier for me as a kid of a cancer patient because I live by my mom. I'm in the trenches with her. It's hard to be a supportive kid from a long distance. You need to see the day-to-day struggle to understand what a patient needs. You know they love you, and that's what matters.

I'm not a crier, and now I cry at the diaper and life insurance commercials (the ones where the kids say, "My grandma is my BEST FRIEND!!!!"). I'm such a tough broad...

Take care of you, and smile every day. I'm so happy you are in a stable place with no signs of re-occurence. Bless you.

    Hi Butterfly
I believe that would make my wife happy too if she could see me eat like that. I have Jaw problems a side effect of all the treatment and I am not hungry all that much. I am a almost a Vegetarian again I do eat a little fish and chicken sometimes but it is like your mother it is only because I need to eat something.

I love you post thanks for sharing the story about your Mom

    Hey hondo
You'll get there. You know what your body needs and what it can do. I just said a prayer for you to move beyond the treatment side effects and to be able to eat whatever your heart desires.

The pizza was her last meal. I was never so happy to see someone eat a big greasy piece of pizza. : )
