Funny thing about hair loss.

I always had long, very thick beautiful hair. Until chemo that is. I think losing my hair was the hardest part of my journey. I was very self conscious, never going without at least a scarf. Then one day my 2 grandsons(age 2&3) pulled off my wig and played rockstar with it! I laughed so hard I forgot I was bald. Eventually the oldest gave it back calling it my hat hair. Fast forward 3 months. My mom came to visit and had changed her hair color and cut. The 3 yr old says" Nana you have hat hair too? He made her prove it was real. We now have a new name for my wigs. And my Mom is still laughing!

Thank you for sharing this. I will start Chemo soon and like you I have always had long beautiful hair. One concern I have had is that if I do loose my hair it may scare my 2 year old son. After reading your story I feel like I am probably worrying more than I should.

.. the loss of my hair .. is awful! Plain and simple.
I felt during my bald times (8 months) -- that I was a walking 'Bulletin Board' stating -- I have Breast Cancer.

I like many women -- opted for Baseball hats (all pink, or white with pink logs') indicating breast cancer, scarves or hat's. My bald scalp, reiterated that fact.

My bald head reiterated the fact .. that 'chemo therapy infusions' are a powerful weapon -- otherwise "we" Chemo Queens would continue to have hair during treatments.

I hated being bald, but on the other hand, I am happy to live in an era where 'chemo therapy' is saving Women with Breast Cancer.

Please remember that ... you are in what, I refer to as our 'cocoon' stage .. soon to emerge as beautiful butterflies.

My 4 year old grandson was a little surprised with my bald dome, but he quickly got over it. The funniest part of his reaction to it was when his sister got sick a couple of weeks later. He asked my daughter if Ellie was going to loose her hair too! He kinda digs that we have the same hair cut now.

Great hair story~ I have one too. I worked BC before cancer, at a community center as assistant program director for the children's programs and I have had this one little boy since he was 3 months old, helping him and his mother deal with life. So he was very sad that I hadn't been around and told his mother he was mad at me. So I mustered all my strength during my chemo treatments time and went in for a visit, sporting only a baseball cap. NOt much of a wig person I discovered. Anyway this little guy kept looking at my hat until he decided to take it off. He was looking at the hat looking back at my head, and I said, hey where did my hair go? He said I don't know sinee, it's not in your hat~I said oh well, I will look for it later, he put his head back and laughed a good belly laugh and put the hat back on my head for me. That was it. Got to love 3 year olds. He has seen me many times since then and now that I have hair again we compare to see whose is growing faster, his or mine, he always wins and he likes that a lot.
