back in the glass shop!

Hi Everyone,

I feel compelled to tell you all that I FINALLY went back into my little workshop, after almost 6 months of not even stepping foot in there..and finished a piece of glass that I started last September. It is FINISHED!!! It was intended for my hubby's Christmas present 2010, then became the March birthday gift for him...in the interim, the cancer trip quite frankly took all of my creative juice and ideas and desire as I focused on the cancer and treatment, etc. But I just had to tell ya'll that Hubby has received his stained glass trout and loves it!

So it does take a while, forever for people like me who haven't even a soft grip on patience. I'm still learning. And you have helped as you help many others on this site. I will continue to check in and hopefully be a part of the healing, the support, another shoulder to lean on. This could be THE site for reaching out and feeling the love and understanding, a place where you are never alone and will be embraced. Cancer is a f(&*)^^$%ing b^*&*^tch(&(!!!!!!!! Yeah, I said it! Sorry if I offended anyone, but I mean it!

Love and prayers,
Ruby

    Wonderful
Got a picture to share? As for being offended, I think most, if not all of us who read your post think "You said it!" Glad you've got the creative juices flowing again. Fabulous to regain you.

    Hi Ruby

The things that take the most time to finish are the things that we cherish the most in life, because they become a part of what we are. I just finish building my work shop outside in my back yard. It took almost a year to do because I had to do it on days that I felt good, in my old days I would have had it in a few weeks. Now when I walk in it for some reason it means so much more to me, just to see I can still do it. What a great feeling

All the blessing in the world to you

Sometimes you just gotta say it!
    Ruby:

Don't know where you're from but if you're familiar with Lewis Grizzard the newspaper columnist that wrote in the Atlanta paper and died from heart problems several years back in his immortal words,"Sometimes it just feels good to say it!" Obviously I'm not offended. Agree with others; can't wait to see picture!

So glad to hear you are back in your studio working. My husband and I have a stained glass studio and we find it quite relaxing (albeit a bit hectic when trying to finish projects for clients) but we find it calms like nothing else can.

We have also talked to others who have said that their creative juices, while they can get rusty during treatment, seem to help them "escape" if even for a little while.

Please check back in and let us know how you are doing.

    Peace.

I love doing glass work... I started 3 years ago, thanks to my brother, who is a wonderful artist. If I had the time I would stay at it all day! I am getting much better with my soldering, but have a way to go yet, I think. We ARE our own worst critics! It feels good to get back to it and looking for a bandaid, but not needing one as often as I used to! You're right, it is so comforting.

So neat you and your husband have a shop and commission work. I have found the greatest lady in Calabash, NC; her shop is called Reflections. The people there are all just amazing!

    Thank you for your thoughts!

We have found that working on a stained glass project, especially a repair or restoration, is like mending or fixing our own bodies when they are sick. I do visualization therapy when working and imagine that for every piece I fix, that is a piece of my body I am fixing as well. I am amazed at how relaxed I feel when I am done.

As for soldering? That is actually my best work. I'm not real good at cutting glass (other than straight lines) but I can zip through soldering pretty quickly.

It's nice to know that we have an outlet to escape the reality of what is going on in our lives, if only for a little while.

BTW, we lived in NC for 4 years, but never heard of the Reflections studio. We will check it out. If you are ever up near Philadelphia, pop over to Merchantville, NJ and check out our studio. We'd love to meet you and talk with you. Our studio is NTS Glass Works.

    Peace.

I wish I was an artists like some of you, but the only thing I can pain is my house and with a really big brush. Funny all my Sisters can draw and paint but it passed me by; but it is ok because I sit and tell them what to draw and paint. Free labor is the way I look at it; but is there really anything for free.

    Good for you
Congrats on reclaiming another piece of your life. I enjoy reading how everyones come back stories. I collect glass. I like stained glass but collect the old crackle glass from the 50' and 60's. I turn bowls on a wood lathe and was able to get back to doing that after about a year.

    Peace to you,
