Question: Anyone removed ovaries, pre-menopausal? Side Effects, please?
Has anyone here removed their ovaries pre-menopausal? My friend - who I post for here too - recently removed her ovaries. She is 33. She is experiencing severe hot flashes! If you have gone through this, pre-menopausal, does side effect last long? Is there anything she can do to feel better? She recently removed her breasts because of bc, ER+ (all in less than a year). So she can't take hormones. Any help will be appreciated!
Thank you.

I did not have my ovaries removed but with chemo my ovaries are dead and put me in pre-menopause ... I have severe hot flashes... and I have had them for two years now... glad to say NO mood swings...I have had some weight gain.. see if her doctor will let her take vitamins that help with female hormone replacement..there are a few out there also One-a-day for women is good...I hope this helps0 -

There are a couple of other options for hot flashes. Effexor is an antidepressant my oncologist suggested. There are a couple of other types of meds she also suggested. Your friend can check with the OB or the oncologist. I keep a fan (old fashioned kind) in my purse. My sister kept gel packs in the freezer. Mine from the chemo has slowed down but I was told it could get worse when I have my ovary out.
How long they last depends. I have a friend that is post menopause 10 years and still having hot flashes....

Hi
My situation is
Hi
My situation is similar to your friend's. I was 34 at diagnosis, only slightly (1-4%) PR +, ER and Her2 -. I am not on any hormonal meds (although my first oncologist had me on tamoxifen which gave me terrible side effects, my new oncologist has since taken me off of it). I also had bilateral mastectomies. The chemo has put me in pre-menopause, and I also have hot flashes. My oncologist has recommended 400IU of vitamin E daily (1 pill), to try, and said she can write me a prescription if the vitamin doesn't help. I've been taking it for a week now, so I can't tell yet if it's helping or not. I've also noticed an increase in my mood swings/worsening of depression -but there's NO way I can tell if this is because of the pre-menopause, a reaction to the circumstances (i just had my 1 year diagnosis anniversary), or every day stresses. I've been on an anti depressant for years, and my Dr has tweaked my meds a bit to help even things out. My oncologist is recommending having my ovaries removed, I have my annual exam with my gynecologist in a few weeks & talk to him about just having everything removed-im done having babies, i have a history of abnormal paps and cancer, and a family history of uterine and ovarian cancers, so i'd rather they just take out everything & give me a better chance at staying healthy.

I can't deal with that. The worse is when you are trying to sleep. I wake up every 1-2 hours wet with sweat. I can't stand it. I get no sleep. One more thing to have to deal with. Sometimes I wish I was born a guy.0
