new to site liver damage from SIRT or chemo?

I'm new to the site. My Dad who is 77 had colon C surgery in 2009 with 2 mets to the liver. He did chemo and 2 treatments of SIRT which killed the tumors. We later found he could have had resection but was mis advised. He developed ascites within the last 6 months and now has two new tumors. We are looking for options now. He has cirrhosis so the surgery is out. I dont know where the cirrhosis came from - either the SIRT or the chemo. Drs don't say much but that possibly nodules were caused by the SIRT. We could do SIRT again, but if it caused the cirrhosis then I dont want to do that. If it was the chemo, then Im afraid of that. I dont want to risk any function that he might have. has anyone experinced ascites with their treatments? Can his liver regenerate? We are trying to get him into MD Anderson now. Looking for answers.

    Resection to the liver or....?

If the treatment killed the tumors in the liver, I would have been happy, but, I dony know for sure.
My onc said the average lifespan for liver colon cancer cells is eighteen months, so I dony know if you are ahead of the curve or are behind it. This is all a mystery to me.
All I can do is pray for you.

    HUGS,

    I just hafta' ask..

    Re:

It takes a cancer cell between 1.5 and 2 years to grow large enough
to be identified. Was that what your oncologist was referring to?

The "lifespan" of any cancer cell, is the same as it's host, unless
it's killed prior to the host's death.

    I'm curious!

    Best wishes,

Thanks so much. Im hoping there will be some regeneration in Dads liver, but I don 't know if thats possible. i've been looking at many different types of treatment even alternative therapies. The most interesting is called Protocel. Has anyone tried this?
