My husband is 42 years old, no family history of cancer. He is however 100% Combat Service Conected Disabled Veteran. He has had several medical issues after being exposed to Sarin Gas in the 91 Gulf War. Anyway, on Mother's Day he went to our PCP for stomach pain, they did an abdominal CT, then called him back the next day for a Chest C/T then the next day for a Brain CT. By Wednesday we were in the Onocologist office schedualing a liver biopsy for Thursday. The Following Monday we saw the surgeon, who scedualed a colonoscopy for Tuesday and then back to the Onocologist on Wednesday. They told us the liver biopsy was negitive and to see the surgeon imeadiatly to get a colon resection to remove the tumor in the colon. So Thursday the surgeon schedualed surgery on Saturday morning. After the surgery the surgeon said he could visualize cancer on the liver an dhad taken two wedge biopsies to confirm. Tuesday afternoon while in the hospital Michael was moved to ICU for a Pulmonary Embolism from a DVT behind his knee. The following Friday he was released. The results from his biopsy came back positive so he has Stage 4 Colon Cancer. With a T3, L2, M1, as 10 of 10 lymph nodes were also positive. Tuesday he had his power port placed and Folfox chemo starts tomorrow morning. So I guess we are in the club, although I would have rather not do it again. I lost my Mother in 2002 from Stage 4 uterine cancer with mets to the liver.

Hi,
My Rick's situation was
Hi,
My Rick's situation was very similar to your husband's current condition (and Rick was also 42 at diagnosis). I know all too well how you must be feeling right now - the range of emotions can be quite overwhelming at times. Please feel free to send me a PM at any time if you'd like - even if it's only for some emotional support or if you need to vent. This isn't an easy road to travel, but it helps when you have a friend to help you along the way. I'm so sorry that you had to join this club, but you're always welcome here. Best wishes, Cynthia0 -
Welcome
Welcome to the board but sorry you had to join. We are a great bunch of people that can help you through this journey. It sounds like you have already started the rollercoaster of appointments, surgeries, tests, and now starting chemo. If you have any questions, or just wanting to express your anxieties or your husband's please let us know. Good luck to your husband tomorrow. Tell him no cold stuff, nothing to eat or drink (meant cold stuff) and to stay away from cold environments until that side effect wears off, usually in a day but the more he gets, the longer it will take to wear off. Tell him thank you for his service.

Our thoughts and prayers are
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and Michael! My father was 28 years Air Force noncom. I was born over seas because of his service. My second time with colon cancer.
If you have questions or need to vent you are at the right place.
Best Always, mike0 -
Welcome
Welcome to a place where nobody really wants to be. My husband is stage 4 with liver mets and some possible lymph involvement. He is currently doing well he will be taking his 12th treatment on Mon. and then we play the wait and see what happens for 3 months. He has been working and trying to keep a positive attitude. He just turned 59 so a little different, but if there is anything I can help you with along the way let me know. Prayers-God Bless Kim0 -
Hello and welcome
Hello and welcome to the board but, as was already said, sorry you have reason to be here. It is good, though, that you found this board so early on. I didn't find it myself until well over a year after my stage IV diagnosis at age 41 in Aug. of '07.
It's not going to be an easy road, but there are several here on the board who are doing well, even at stage IV. There are even a couple (maybe more) here who were diagnosed as stage IV and are now NED (no evidence of disease), so never give up hope!!
Take care & keep checkiing back in with us any time you or your husband have a question or just need support in any way!
