Linitis Plastica

in Stomach Cancer #1
June 8th 2011. My husband has just been diagnosed with this rare type of stomach cancer. it seems that it is in an advanced stage but still confined within the stomach. He starts chemo tomorrow. Any advice or recommendations for treatment/care/homeopathic remedies are welcome. Has anyone survived this type of cancer? What can we expect? Thanks in advance.

    Hello,My son was diagnosed with the same cancer about 2 years ago.In his case too it was localised to the stomach and resectable.The whole stomach along with lymph nodes was removed with 3 cycles of chemotherapy both before and after surgery.He was then 30years of age.
    Chemo is tough and there were ups and downs;infections,blood clots,the expected skin and hair changes but we kept looking ahead to the surgery.Chemo is what makes that possible and gives the best prognosis.During this period we also tried to see that our son got plenty of fluids and the most nutritious diet.During and after surgery weight loss will certainly occur so get in as much food as possible before that.
    On this site you will find a number of people with linitus plastica.Remember you are not alone.We are all hoping good things happen to your husband,he sails through chemo and gets rid of this disease soon.Our love and good wishes

    I wish you the best and I am so happy for your son.

    12 years ago I lost a sister from this cancer and a few months ago my younger sister has the same diagnose.

    Can you tell me what the treatment is in your country because I want to be sure my sister get the best treatment there is.

    Here is the treatment 3 cycles of chemo then total stomach removal and then 3 cycles of chemo again.
    I heard that chemo+radiotion after chirugry is another treatment.

    Does anyone have any experience with this?

    My son is 39 years old and
    My son is 39 years old and was diagonised with Plastica linitus in February, 2011. He has undergone 8 rounds of chemo, but it has always been told that surgery was not an option. He has had his stomach drained a few times but this is very painfull to him as his stomach is very tender. He has lost an awful lot of weight and I don't think he could handle surgery. We have been advised to stop chemo now for awhile as he has not gained his strength back after the 8th round of chemo. They may change his chemo in the future.
    we have more or less been told that there is now hope that all we get hope for is a bit longer timewise. This is so cruel to see him suffer. What chemo was your son having?

    Dear Cheranne,I hope some therapy helps your son and reduces his pain and suffering.My son had 3 cycles of 5FU(continuous infusion),epirubicin,cisplatin before surgery and taxotere added after surgery for 3 cycles.His disease was luckily detected before it spread to the surrounding organs.May you find all the strength to deal with your son's illness.

    Hi. I lost my mom to this cancer in 2006. It's a very vicious type I must say. I want to start finding out some info on other people who have and have had this cancer. Did your son ever smoke? Or chew Nicorette gum?????

    Hi,my son was a very occassional smoker and did not chew Nicorette gum.In mid-october he was detected with distant lymph node metastasis and is again on chemotherapy.Its a more difficult battle now.Linitus plastica is known to sometimes be genetically inherited and you could go for genetic counselling.

    How is your son doing? My husband was diagnosed with LP in February. He too had his entire stomach and part of his esophogus removed. We met with chemo and radiation oncology 3 weeks post op to treat and hopefully kill that last bit of cancer that spread to his esophagus and lymph nodes. (They removed 10 and 7 of those were infected.) His tumor was 16 x14 x 1 cm. He is currently stage III. He is finishing up his 5th and final week of chemo/radiation, break for 3 weeks, then 3 rounds of IV chemo. EOX is what he will go through.

    How is your son doing?
