colonscopy
I am scheduled for a colonscopy soon. I have always prepared for the
colonscopy the old fashion way. Drinking the dreaded drink in the
evening and the morning of the test.
Someone informed me there is something new. You take a pill to clean
yourself out. Is there anyone who knows anything about this? And is
this new procedure safe and thorough as the old procedure?
Thanks for your help. Maggie

Flex Sig Prep
Just did this last Thursday and the prep is the same for colonoscopy. Took four dulcolax at 3:00, then at 4:00 mixed together 64 ozs of gatorade with 238 (g. ? - it's the 14 day supply) of miralax. 5:00 start drinking 8 ozs every 10-15 minutes until gone. This affects me fast so it doesn't take me long to start going potty. I'm not sure if you can just take one pill, but haven't done the golytly thing but only once. Others will chime in with their experience too. Good luck.

I prefer the OsmoPrep pills
I prefer the OsmoPrep pills that I've taken for my last 3 colonoscopies to the two liquids that I've tried. But some don't like pills, and there are other pills besides OsmoPrep. You'll find many discussions of prep in past postings, since this is something virtually all of us have opinions about. I think all the available prep agents are equally safe (provided you drink enough liquid).

Hello,
Thank you so much for your speedy reply to my question.
Greg, you hit it right on the head. OsmoPrep. I just received an email
from the cancer socitey explaining pill should be taken with green gatorade.
I send you both and all my prayers in your journey to get well. I also send positve
thoughts and hugs your way.
I was DX in Sept 2009 with NHL when my small bowel perforated. My small bowel was resected. The perforation was caused by NHL. I must have a yearly colonscopy to make sure there is
no more cancer cells. As you can see, OsmoPrep will be easier for me.
God Bless Love Maggie0 -
Hello!
I have an anastomotic stricture at the surgery site that is so narrow, liquid can't get through it. Doint the pred, ever since the resection surgery, has been a nightmare for me, and i'm never completely cleaned out no matter what i've tried. Now what i'm doing is fasting for several days before the actual prep (i'm fasting now for a colonoscopy on Thursday). Hopefully this will do it. My point is, i think the pills may be less effective in cleansing. My mother always gets to do the pills, and she said she wasn't cleaned out well enough this last time. I know what you mean about the nasty golytly, though. I'd rather do anything else that worked, even if it was a little less effective. Alas, UCSD doesn't seem to be hooked up to the pill pharmaceutical company! lol!0 -
Here in Canada we take Pico
Here in Canada we take Pico salax, 1/4up water ad the powder stir it up it tastes like bubbly orange juice, first at 10 am second at 4 pm. It is 1/4 cup and gone in 3 big gulps.
Works great and the taste is good, drink every hour 1 glas of water because of dehydration.0
