OT...but something that calms me, and makes me smile....

I bought a multi-station bird feeder! It's right outside my window! Filled with all sorts of different treats (well, seeds, anyway).

I LOVE watching the birds...Because it's spring, there are even little ones, always begging for a meal...*smile*. And there are some birds that I don't recognize that just come occasionally, and then I break open my book and have great fun identifying them. I will never become a 'birder', but this is a great entertainment for me! I keep my camera and my binoculars handy, just to see close up. (Although I don't look when they take a bath in the water...lol!).

Mostly we have finches, it seems like one flock lives in our tree. We have one female finch that comes and takes a bath, and seems to enjoy it alot....she gets everyone else wet with her splashing, and that is funny! But we have also 2 mating pairs of Mourning Doves, and a pair of Goldfinches, and many, many sparrows. I put the feeder pole inside the umbrella ring of a table I wasn't using, so that the spill from the feeders can be reached by the bigger birds...

It does take a bit of commitment...keeping everything filled now that the word has made it thru the 'birdvine', and I need to change the water everyday because it gets seeds in it. But 5 minutes of work, and investment in seeds from my local 99cent only store, provides all-day entertainment!

Hugs, Kathi

I love to watch them, too
And I am clueless as to what they are in general. I should get a book. We have the little yellow finches, blue jays, cardinals and morning doves, robins, sparrows, those big black birds, too. Last week we had a Baltimore Oriole and I've seen an indigo bunting. I couldn't identify anything else.

My coworker, who lives a few miles from me, has a catbird. I thought she was pulling my leg, but another coworker said she had one too. These ladies know the birdsongs and can identify birds by that - the only one I can identify is a woodpecker!

I'm glad we have this joy right outside your window!

I am a big bird lover too!
I am a big bird lover too! Is there anything more relaxing than watching their antics. It is summer here (103 yesterday) and a drought. I am enjoying watching the black capped chickadees taking a shower in the sprinkler. We have also been enjoying a red bellied woodpecker at the suet feeder who is feeding her fledgling "baby" below the feeder. Biggest baby you ever saw--only difference is the mom has a red head.

Don't get me started about the birds! I'm such a nerd ;-)

    Oh yeah. We feed birds,
Oh yeah. We feed birds, too. We have lots of different kinds of finches. Also chickadees and juncoes, towhees, woodpeckers and flickers. Occasionally a tanager and recently doves come to the feeder. We also have hummingbird feeders for hummingbirds. Thank goodness for the antics of birds. xoxoxoxo Lynn

We have a "bird tree" on a pole because we don't have any trees. We have nyjer for the finches, milo & sunflower for the bigger birds and nectar for the hummingbirds and orioles. Gets a little pricey at times but this *is* our entertainment.

If you have binoculars and a bird book, I think you are a "birder". I have ibird on my iphone!

I need to share a funny story...
The hubby shared a cute story with me this morning. He caught our green parakeet Beebie hanging upside down from our curtain rod in the living room. Seemed a female humming bird on the feeder outside the front window caught his attention. Gosh I wish I could have gotten that on camera. I guess even birds need a closer look. LOL

    When I went to school
When I was in school we had to study the birds.Learn what the birds were and looked like. It was interesting. Now many years later my husband sits on the front porch and tells me all he sees.I also look but see the normal ones.He sees unigue ones. When he describes them I forget what bird that was.Been way to many years. We need to get the book out.

Very said thing happened last week.We have a big tree built into our deck.My idea but it is unique.Strong winds came through and a bird nest fell from that tree. The eggs broke and you could see the start of the babies.Very sad. There were 4 of them.Nest just rested on the deck railing. One was next to the nest and the other 3 were on the deck.Poor babies and now mommy will miss them.
