Sometimes heartburn is more than a tummy ache. Frequent heartburn and acid reflux can be a symptom of something much more serious.
If you suffer from frequent heartburn or acid reflux, ask your doctor if you should be screened for Barrett's Esophagus. And if they say no, ask why not. Barrett's Esophagus is a precancerous condition that can sometimes develop into Esophageal Cancer, a very serious and deadly cancer that often isn't caught until it's too late to be cured. Barrett's Esophagus can be monitored and treated thanks to many new techniques.
Remember, most of the time, heartburn is heartburn but sometimes it's a sign of much more. You owe it to yourself and your loved ones to ask your doctor about screening. For more information, check out www.ecaware.org.

Podcast
Hi Jimbo,
That sounds great. Is there a way I can hear your podcast from Australia?
I don't know whether you wanted to add that the screening is a simple and painless process so people don't get turned off by the thought of having a test. But I loved what you wrote

That's a great point. I'll put that in right after where it says ask your doctor if you should be screened. We are in iTunes, just search for Spooktalkular or you can download right from our website at www.spooktalkular.com.0 -

Hi Jimbo---what a great effort to get others to possibly catch this dsease early enough for long term recovery!!! thankyou----In addition to ecaware.org, I think you should also mention ECAN.org (Esophageal Cancer Action NEtwork). I assisted them as a volunteer to get many states to declare EC month throught their Governors' offices. If you check their website & 2010 accomplishments & their board of directors, I know you will be impressed. I think we ALL can work together in this effort. In fact I think this disease REQUIRES us to all work together--as in absolute terms the incidence is lower than other cancers---sometimes being ignored compared to the more "popular" cancers to support. e all know Periwinkle ribbons are not the norm right now---but we see pink every where. I am glad breast cancer has gotten so much support, but look forward to the day that Esophageal cancer has better survival rates, earlier detection & more research funding.

I'm going to blame Chemo brain because I was actually thinking ecan.org when I was typing. I didn't have time to do record a PSA so I just Ad Libbed it tonight. I'm going to record one and have some of my buddies over at radiodaddy punch it up some for me for use later. My wife and I are committed to spreading the word whenever we can. The next time we do a festival or convention, we are going to get with ECAN and get one of their info kits to set up on our table as well. Heartburn can cause cancer. Four months ago, I had no idea.0 -

I Ad Libbed it
Hey William,
I Ad Libbed it tonight and included the pill cam in my discussion. We talked about how both procedures, EGD and the Pill Cam were both painless procedures. It was fun being back on the air after our little hiatus. We actually planned to do the show before the results of the PET/CT so it was good to share the incredible news with everyone.0
