OT - "Your card's being canceled."
Saturday evening Hubby got a text from 'Sentinial Federal Credit Union' (there are a couple of branches of SFCU around here) saying that his card was being canceled - well no can do as he/we/me don't have any accounts with them. My first thought was someone had stolen his identity - he thought that it was just a mis-dial. They left a number for him to call so Tuesday morning he called (the number was the same number the text was from AND is a local number - we live in a fairly low population area - WHOLE state only has about 1,000,000 in it) - well all he got was a messsage saying the in box was full. He called the branch of Sentinial on Ellsworth and it was definately a scam. They had already had over 100 calls from others who had gotten the same message and they had turned it over to all applicable law enforcement agencies.
Poor Sandy - Tuesday afternoon someone else tried to scam him on the phone. He got a call from some guy (who could hardly speak American) who said he was in Michigan and that he had won a lot of money - all he had to do to get it quickly was to send in X amount of dollars to speed up processing (he didn't remember the amoung as by that time he was getting 'hot') and then he'd have his 'won' money in a day or 2 along with the money sent to do quick processing.

While I was in the middle of
While I was in the middle of all the doctor bills and cancer treatments, some jerk began trying to write checks on my account. He had my account number, but the fraud department of our bank caught on before he got any of our money. We had to change account numbers, contact the people who draft on us--it was a big headache. My wish is that all these dishonest people would get caught and have their butts kicked.0 -
Apparently a LOT got the text!
Hubby was over helping a friend today and they were 'yacking' about 'whatever'. Friend told him that this morning in the paper had something in the paper about it - guess there were a lot it happened to. Maybe something will be on the Evening News.

You are not the only ones who get those scam things on the phone. I live in the middle of nowhere in Central Oregon and have gotten several of them. The bank that supposedly sent them is one that we use but we do not have a card. I guess there are dishonest people all over this great country of ours. It's just too bad that most of them don't get caught.

There does seem to be a LOT of this going on right now. Everyone really needs to be careful.
"They're" everywhere, on the phone, texting, on the computer, and even knocking on doors.0
