Hi everyone I am new to your discussion board. I do not have colorectal cancer, but ovarian Cancer stage 3c. I am here because I need advice and I don't know where to go. Since I have a temporary ieostomy I feel like I don't get enough fruits and veggies. Juicing gets old and messy and I am concerned because I know you should eat healthy while going thru chemo. And because the chemo it's self I have watch certain foods like raw fruits, veg and raw fishes. So any suggestions.

    jbeans-

The United Ostomy Association of America has a great forum,
and can provide answers to question you simply won't find
    anyplace else!

If what you're asking, is "what can I eat with an ileostomy",
the answer is simple: Anything that you ate before, just chew it
all really well, like mom always said to do.

When you hear about intestinal "obstructions" and "blockages",
they are not usually caused by what's been eaten; they're usually
caused by an adhesion or hernia that's narrowed the intestinal
wall, or has kinked it, preventing food from passing easily.

We usually do not have a problem with adhesions or hernias
until a year or three after surgery; they take time to form!

Adhesions and hernias for me, did not present any problem
until almost 5 years after my surgery. Once they begin giving you
a problem, watching what is eaten does not really matter. I would
have a blockage after eating jello.

Since your Ileo is new and you won't have it for long, don't
worry needlessly. Eat a healthy, well rounded diet with extra
    protein, and chew, chew, chew.

    You'll do fine!

    Welcome
Welcome to the boards and you can ask away on this site as much as you need. We have many ostomy patients here, myself included (temporary with reversal) A good link is UOAA.org It is an ostomy site and they have discussion boards there. One thing that is important is to peel all vegetables and fruits if they have skins, tomatoes, cucs, potatoes, apples, etc. Loved my vegetables and they every day during chemo. Once again, welcome.

    osmotic effect of juicing
i jiuiced twiced a day carrot, celery, beets etc. had issues with diarrhea and needed to stop juicing all together, and or cut it back. managing my nutrition and diarrhea was a real juggle. if you juice just be careful, i still swear by my juicing, it present easily absorbed nutrients straight ot the intestine.

    hugs,
    pete
