6 AM surgery for radical nephrectomy

Hello all,

I will be going in tomorrow am for my surgery, having RN of left kidney. I will post updates when I can and thanks to everyone for there helpful words and blessing.

    May all your tubes be removed without discomfort, may you be able to walk the halls faster each day, may you P freely. When you are on a liquid diet, rejoice if the cook accidentally drops a noodle in it. That means you are eating solid food.
    I passed many minutes watching the birds circle above the courtyard of the hospital. Every once in a while, a crow would come in to drive the other birds away.

    I have another "where were you when a memorable event happened". The day I got out of the hospital, we watched Oregon State University win the NCAA Div.I baseball championship. I graduated from OS.

    A radical will make you tired. The anesthesia, the movement of all your internal organs to get to the kidney, the thoroughness of the surgeons to check surrounding tissue and nodes, the change to one kidney having to filter all the fluids. There's a reason the docs say 6 weeks. I urge you to do what you can as you can, but don't overdo anything too soon as it will just set you back.

    So happy to hear all went well for you, rest up and take it easy. I know exactly how you feel about wanting to get back to "normal"...It's amazing how "normal" sounds like Heaven on earth....I swear I won't take one little thing in life for granted again...So happy for you...God Bless...Hope to hear updates about how you're doing...:-)

    It's great that you're home. I had a very radical nephrectomy 31 years ago for kidney cancer. I'm still rockin'. But for now, you need to rest and take good care of yourself. Healing takes time, both physically and emotionally. Give yourself time and patience and I wish you all the best.

    Glad to see you are recovering.

    Hang in there.

    It gets better over team.

    They used some type of surgical glue with my wife instead of staples.

    Glad everything when smooth and your home. I had my kidney removed april 16 and fill like new again. No pain and filling good. Was tired the first five weeks and then started filling better. Hope you recover fast, and the pain goes away. You take care and your body will take care of it's self. Good luck.

    Glad everything when smooth and your home. I had my kidney removed april 16 and fill like new again. No pain and filling good. Was tired the first five weeks and then started filling better.     I had My right kidney removed on May 4th 2011, it does take time, My Doc told Me to walk a lot, don't lift nothing and just take it easy, after a week of being home you will fell like doing a little bit of stuff "but don't or you will end up back in the hospital like I did", after three weeks you will start feeling pretty ok and want to do things, but ONLY do very light house work and do lots of walking, and drink lots of water.

    I thought I could Handel anything, but when the Doc first told Me I had kidney cancer, it kind of rocked My world, even after the Doc told Me He got it all, I still feel really down and sad, the hardest part of being home for me is being around people and hiding how down and sad I really feel, but still do what Your Doc says.

    Puppetman.. good to see you are up and about.. I am running on my 2nd week post op. and feeling pretty good.. incisions are healing slowly.. and had staples taken out last week.

    Glad recovery is going well! I had a radical nephrectomy May 4. As far as diet, I had just started a vegan diet before the shocker diagnosis. One of the oncology doctors is also vegan, and recommended I stick with the veganism. I have, and I feel good. There is a lot of information out there linking animal products to health issues, and I'd rather not risk it. I know it depends on so many factors, genes being the main one, but the plant based diet just seems healthier all around.
    So that's where I am. It's different for everyone, I know.
