allergic reactions to carbo
I've had several allergic reactions to carbo. Many methods were tried to see if I could tolerate it. I'd get massive pre-meds/VERY slow infusions.... sometimes 12 hours! I've been switched to cisplatin/gemzar instead of carbo/gemzar. So far. so good, but I'm told that I could delevop the same sensitivies.

I have been on carbo since last Aug. I developed an allergy on my next to last treatment. I thought the doc would skip the last one but said they would just put me in the hospital and put it in slow. I took Decadron the nite before and the next morning and they gave the pre-med. Started the infusion really slow and then gradually increased it so that it ran the fastest at nite. I had a roommate doing the same thing so we made a day of it! The whole thing took 24 hours. The nurses in the hospital said they hardly ever have a problem with the slow infusions. Good luck! -
allergic reactionantcat said:Hi Joan, yes I've also had a reaction to Carbo. I tried it twice, the first time I just got very stuffy and a little red, the second time, I developed hives. So, I was told no more carbo for me.
I ended up having a allergic reaction while in the hospital so I ended up spending the night with a slow drip, it took 10 hours. They let my friend spend the night with me which was really nice. Luckily this was my last carbo treatment and only have 2 Taxol treatments left and may I remain NED free for a loooong time! For the most part I feel good!!
Thanks for the Thoughts!!
