my heart is breaking NG tubes everywhere
what did i see ?
well level 8 is the colorectal floor.
today and tomorrow are big op days here.
so many sweet old people with ng tubes and a few younger ones.
all the beds are full here. the nurses are so busy, no chats tonight.
seeing all these colorectal patients just touched me, it reminded me of my resection 7 months ago.
if i get the the chance i'll talk with a few over the next couple of days, may try and give some encouagement.
our cancer is so nasty the way it picks on the old and vulnerable. not that i want more young people. i don;t know its just so sad seeing all thes people at the beginning of the colorectal journey and me at the end hopefully.
i remember my first night with the ng tube it was the worst for me.
hugs,
pete

NG tube
The NG tube is one of my worst memories of being diagnosed. I remember being told I had colon cancer and the ER nurse telling me I would need an NG tube, they shove it up my nose and then I promptly vomit on myself, good times, thank God I already had the hospital gown on. So nice of you to be there for others.0 -

i guess they were a lucky sweet old personPGLGreg said:From a sweet old person:
I woke up after surgery with an NG tube, and kept it for 9 days. It gave me a sore throat, but otherwise I didn't mind it.

my recoveryfrom my resection was pretty horrendous 14 days no food, vomits etc etc. i just hope they are mostly spared the worst of the recovery.

Oh Pete,
Having the NG tube
Oh Pete,
Having the NG tube inserted bedside with a bunch of Doogie Howser interns see me panic and scream and cry, not one of my finer memories. That same day I had a feeding tube inserted in my neck and a botched barium enema, so done 2x. One of my very worst memories of 2 years in cancer hell.
So I can totally relate the visual you described, there's something that makes you look so very weak and vulnerable.

Yuck! My husband had to have the NG tube twice. When he was in recovery after his surgery my heart felt heavy for all of the people on the hospital floor. Can you imagine... no one to care for you after a major life changing experience?
I hope your'e feeling better Pete

Dear Pete, Hope you are feeling better and you are at home. I dont like NG tubes either had them enough while in the hospital. Hope I wont have another one. I am getting B12 shots from the oncogloy (sp), I had to get them for a week, now receiving them once a week, then a month for a year. I am remaining positive. Most of the time I go up to the oncolgy (SP) floor there are pts in there receiving their treatments. When I left once I cried when I left and I prayed for them all.
Take Care
