On the subject of "sugar":

This from an article at foodconsumer.com titled "Sugars may boost certain cancers.", which is based on an article in the upcoming June issue of the int'l journal of Cancer

sugar and PET scans
Interesting thought... many doctors will still claim eating sugar has nothing to do with cancer. Now, think of the PET scans many of us get. What do they inject us with an hour before the scan? Radioactive sugar! They know the sugar will go straight to the cancer and if they attach this radioactive stuff with the sugar, then they will see the active cells (any cells that are actively dividing- also shows brain, heart, kidneys, urine in bladder, etc, in addition to areas that are cancerous).
That thought to me makes me think- okay, whether or not sugar causes or feeds cancer, it does apparently go straight to the tumors, as demonstrated in PET scans. So what does it do for the cancer cells once it gets there? All that I've read said it's feeding those dividing cells. So, why would we want to give the cancer cells help to continue to multiply and grow?? I know that our body metabolizes many things we ingest into sugar (especially carbs), but I don't think we need to help out by eating more sugar!
My naturopath lectured me last time I saw him because I admitted I had fallen back into eating sweets the past couple of weeks. He said "You've got to stop eating sugary foods- think of sugar as poison!"
So even if the above mentioned study didn't show that sugar affected colorectal cancer, I'm not going to take any chances! Even if it's not "proven" to every doctor's satisfaction, I'm at the point where I think that I would be foolish to give the cancer a chance- I want to help beat this in all ways possible!
Being a sugar "addict" is hard- really hard. The first few days when I stop eating sweets, I literally feel like I'm climbing the walls! What has helped me not have so much of a sweet craving is taking bitter leaf aloe vera juice (2 capfuls after each meal or anytime I find myself wanting sweets). I initially got this from my naturopathic, but it's pretty easy to find at health food stores. I recently got it at Henry's (don't know if that's just a local chain or not- I live in So. Cal). Another thing I noticed is that once I started eating less sugar, that when I did give in and have something sweet, it seemed sickening sweet! Like the raspberry iced tea I used to always drink from the fast food restaurants- I got some the other day (was really tired driving and wanted to wake up) & I about spit it out- couldn't believe I used to regularly drink something so sweet! I now always have my hot tea without any sweetener, which was really hard at first- it tasted so bland and yuck without sweetener, but I persisted & now it seems way too sweet if I put any kind of sweetener in it!
So, going off sugar (or at least greatly reducing the amount of sugar intake) IS do-able!

I have not investigated why ? i know its the sugar.

There are several kinds of sugars: sucrose (a molecule of fructose and a molecule of glucose), free fructose,and free glucose. Free fructose, free glucose, and glucose are all distributed for all the cells to use. The molecule of fructose from sucrose is kept in the liver and NOT sent to the other cells. The liver then has to metabolise it and in small doses it can expel it. But in heavy doses it ends up being stored in the liver and becomes one of the spots that are referred to in "fatty livers".
That is why the article you quoted Steve refers to "added sugar". FYI, sucrose is 50%-50% sucrose and glucose while High Fructose Corn Syrup is 55% fructose, 45% glucose.
I've been off added sugar since Jan, other then the 1 oz of dark chocolate I have daily, and don't miss it at all anymore. I didn't have that much before but wanted to lose some weight and just get healthier so I stopped it and many grains.

Ive taken to all the "sugar free" foods out there including chocolates. Cant really tell a difference with stuff made from splenda ect.0 -

My experience is similar to Lisa's. Sugar is a habit that can be broken, though it took me a long time. I stopped drinking Cokes over 5 years ago, and I eliminated sweet desserts gradually, over the next several years.

I still have spice foods, love them.
I still dream about chasing women, that why I am trying to loose weight so I can catch them.
Why did you give up naughty movies ?
I guess everyones anticancer approach is unique, yours does not sound like a lot of fun.
May I humbly suggest at least adding back chasing women or naughty movies or both if your keen.
I don't really miss sugar that much, the hardest for me is creamy icecream, but I have replaced that with fruit sorbets.
