I am looking for anyone who has had a liver resection...I had a liver resection Jan. 2011 and still having pain. The pain is worse after eating. It hurts to walk. I'm still on pain meds and wondering if this is normal or not. I hope at some point this goes away. Please advise!

Liver resection pain
Kim - I had a liver resection last August and actually felt pretty good by about 6 - 8 weeks out. I still do have some pain, but mine is more muscular and I think I have a failed hernia repair (ie, I can't do sit-ups - or even sit up in bed and sometimes when I sit for long periods and then move I have some pain). However, if your pain is so significant you're still on pain meds, I'd make an appointment with a doctor and figure out what's going on. I stopped my pain meds within 3 - 4 weeks of surgery. Best wishes.0 -
pain
there is an answer from a doctor in the liver cancer discussion boards about pain after surgery. It has something to do with irritated nerves in the abdominal area. look it up under the topic about pain0 -
Liver Resection
Hi: I had a liver resection associated with removal of my gallbladder and its tumour in April 2010. I never really had any pain, even right after surgery. But I certainly have an incisional hernia that will have to be fixed once I finish chemo. I would check with your doctor.

Liver Resection
Hi
I too had a wedge resection of my liver along with lots of other stuff for my Stage 4 Gallbladder Cancer in 2006. Everyone is different and everyone's pain level tolerance is lower or higher than for some other people. I think that many factors can come into play depending on the type of surgery, length of surgery, etc. Tell your doctor about it, he might be able to explain it to you. Everyone wants the quick fix, but once your body goes through such trauma it takes time to heal. Give yourself some time to recover.
Take Care
