Throat cancer
I am a 71 year old guy who has been smoking a pack of cigarettes a day
for 60 years...
I was always athletic & VERY active.. strong...worked hard..then on my 65th birthday I had a heart attack..stens were inserted...plavix blood thinner.. so I retired.. sat on my can...watching TV...recently I began feeling VERY weak.. every bone & muscle in my body ached..I could hardly put on my socks/shoes in the morning...
Then I got a 2.5 cm. lump on the side my neck... a lot of sinus drainage...slightly sore throat...so I went to a surgeon...
I was referred to Hermann Hospital in Houston, to the head throat specialist who immediately drew a sample to test for cancer & performed a catscan...I was diagnosed with phase 3 cancer in the early stages...The Dr. said this could be a reason for my "tiredness" ..since the cancer drains the energy from the body...
He told me failure to operate will cause my death in 6 months to a year...
He suggested a operation (using the DaVinci robotics) on the back of my toungue to destroy the cancer, & a operation on the side of my neck to remove the tumor. THAT.. will be extremely painful, & probably trouble swallowing for 2 weeks...THEN... "6 MONTHS OF CHEMO/REDUCED RADIATION TREATMENTS "5" TIMES A WEEK..!! He suggested that I "MAY" suffer other problems from the radiation..???
(NOT.. enamored with THAT!)
I am "considering a 2nd opinion from MD Anderson Cancer center" ...??? but wondering if it is worth the time...?
I was "hoping" to talk to someone who had this surgery...so I could get THEIR opinion..
& prognosis...
