Recovery time???

My husband had total mesorectal excision surgery along with a temporary iliostomy 3 weeks ago tomorrow. He had problems with his primary incision being infected and we are nursing it. He is still having quite a bit of abdominal pain and I was hoping for some input from those who have had the same surgery. At what point should the abdominal pain subside? He is walking around and eating good with no fever but I'm still concerned. Thanks for your help!

Thanks Gracie he is actually not on any antibiotics. They popped about 4 staples 8 days post op due to infection. Since then myself and the nurses are changing the dressing a couple times a day and it does seem like it is healing from the inside out as the said it would. He just spoke to the Dr. and he feels his output is too thick and told him to lay off the immodium. He has percocet but has not taken any for two days (hes pretty stubborn when it comes to pain meds). He is walking about 200 yards at a time. Hopefully this pain is just a little back-up in the iliostomy. Thanks so much for your help! Steph0
