any comments ???

this sounds plausible to me, never heard of this before and I have been focused on Bowel Cancer since the 3rd june 2010.

Just heard this tonight from my good friends Dad. His very wise old surgeon said "if you have an active polyps and exercise they secret a chemical that triggers diarrhea" now this should be a warning in all gyms and fitness places. Before I go pushing this has anyone else heard of anything like this ??

while we try to save ourselves, this may be good for the prevention folks out there.

have not made many new posts in recent weeks, but making up for it over the last few days.

And back before I was diagnosed, I walked everywhere in this city of mine, not to mention when I wasn't walking to get from point A to B, I was walking the dog. I had my "active" polyp for at least 10 years prior to it being diagnosed... and diarrhea was NEVER a problem for me, nor constipation. Bowels worked just fine and if bowel movements or change in bowel movements are suppose to be a symptom of cancer, then they just weren't there.

Sorry Pete... but unless there is proof, I can't go by the "It sounds plausible so maybe it is" theory.

Oh Cheryl, you sound so
Oh Cheryl, you sound so much like me....absolutely NO symptoms till blood clots in lung and complete blockage made me go to hospital. I can't figure out how it could go probably years completely normal no symptoms at all!!!! Sure wish I had had at a much earlier stage

I had never heard of this possible "effect" until last nights walk.

this has got nothing to do with my ongoing battle with diarrhea as I hope I have no active polyps. so the mexican diner is not really relevant.

Given our western diets and irregular systems and the difficulty of achieving earlier detection symptoms. I was hoping others may have heard of this.

This possible link between exercise and diarrhea with the presence of active polyps came from one of the most experienced colorectal surgeons in sydney who has been practicing for must be 40 years, if not more. this relationship was advised to my friends Dad 20 years ago when he had his stage one bowel cancer out.

the key warning if the premise had some validity would be that

"diarrhea straight after heavy exercise" could be a clear warning factor that may help with the goals of early detection. I'll do some more digging this end and if I come up with anything I'll post it here. Just because its not been heard of on our board does not mean the premise is invalid. Even if its not true for some, it may be of value in a possible study.
