I am sorry that you and your mother are having to go through this but, welcome to the board. There is a lot of love and experience here for you to draw from. I don't have experience with other chemos yet but, will be deciding between 2 other than FOLFOX here very soon. There are other chemos and I would suggest a 2nd opinion for your mother. Since I had to quit FOLFOX, my oncologist is suggesting FOLFIRI or Xeloda. I also know that there are more than just those 2 available for colon cancer. Please ask about other possible chemos and get a 2nd opinion so that you have lots of input and more information.
Again, so that you have to be here but, welcome. -

Vectibix
Dear Molly, sorry about the news. When I found out that I had mets to lungs, the oncologist recommended Vectibix plus Irinotecan. I was on it for 12 treatments, the Vectibix does cause a rash to face, scalp, and chest, and the Irinotecan usually causes the hair to fall out, but the good news is that it worked very well for me. The tumors in my lymph nodes and lungs all shrunk by 50% at the end of the chemo. I was off chemo for 3 months because I had been on some type of chemo for over 2 years and the doctor said I needed a break. The cancer started growing again so now I'm back on folfox + Avastin after 4 years. I've had everything that is out there for colon cancer and they all seem to work while I'm on chemo and the cancer seems to always grow when I'm not on chemo. Maybe this one will finally due the trick. Vectibix doesn't really have any side effects other than the rash, Irinotecan can also cause diarrhea but they give you medicine for that. Hope this helps, may God Bless both of you, Randy
