ENDOMETRIOSIS HISTORY?
I would be curious to get some feedback from all of you. Any of you have endometriosis prior to your cancer dx? I was diagnosed with endo in 1973 after several years of suffering. At that time, there wasn't a lot of info out there, and there really still isn't. However, around the time I was diagnosed I discovered that several friends and many others my age were also being diagnosed. Asked my Mom if she took anything during her pregnancy with me, she said no. Just can't figure out the timeline connection. Anyway, would like to know how many of you had a diagnosis of endometriosis. Thanks so much~!

Endometriosis
Hi Monika
I've never suffered with endometriosis. I also had regular yearly check-ups with my Gyny which is why my ovca was picked up relatively 'early'

No history of endometriosis; just ovarian cysts.0 -
Endometriosis History
I was diagnosed with endometriosis around 1980 when I had trouble with infertility, no other symptoms. I had surgery and the doctor at the time said that there was so much that if he had not known I wanted to get pregnant, he would have taken it all out. I had another surgery by laporoscopy later to remove scar tissue and more endometriosis. I read that endometriosis is possibly related to ovarian cancer also as well as teaching as a career due to stress. There is also a history of cancer in my family, my father had prostate cancer, and my brother passed away from colon cancer 2 1/2 years ago. I have mentioned in a previous post that I have a personality tendency toward anxiety and worry along with guilt. My husband jokes that it was my Catholic upbringing HA HA HA! So who knows, if any of this led to my diagnosis? I would be interested though about what you find out about endometriosis from others in this group. Christine0 -

Heavy, painful, clotty periods were my symptoms. I was 16 at the time. They put me on the birth control pill to stop my periods. It was horrible. It was called the 'career woman's disease' because at that time many women were becoming more career-minded and putting off having a family, thus creating the conditions for endo.
I married in 75, and in 1980 a specialist told me my only hope was to have a partial hysterectomy due to the enormous about of damage and scar tissue. He would try to save one ovary. I actually was just hours away from surgery when they told me I was pregnant! According to the specialist, this was 'impossible' - I had three lovely daughters since. Sometime later I heard someone say that endometriosis is a 'pre-cancerous' disease. So, that's why I was curious to hear from everyone else.
Thanks for all your replies!

Yes I had extensive
Yes I had extensive endometriosis but not the traditoinal painful periods etc. It was discovered during fertility workup...could get pregnant but would miscarry. Was on Danocrine for a year (medical menopause) then major laparotomy surgery but sparing fertility. Full term pregnancy shortly after. I now have clear cell OVCA which has had a high correlation with endo. If this is the price I had to pay to have my son (who will be 20 end of this month) it has been worth it!0 -
Yes!
I had endometriosis for years (starting in my 20's) and had surgey in my 30's to clean it all out, beause they thought it was the main reason for not being able to get pregnant. I always asked every doctor that treated me if there was any possibility of this becoming cancer. They all said no. I never did get pregnant, and eventually, after my periods stopped, It went away. About 6 years after menopause is when I was diagnosed with ovca 3C.
I read some article last year on the connection between endometriosis and cancer, and I can't find the actual study that was done, but here is one article that I found on a quick search.

No endometriosis here.
Nope, though I did have PCOS. I also had regular well woman check-ups but my OC was stage 3 when I began to have symptoms. BC pills and other drugs that stop ovulation actually lower your risk.
There also seems to be a higher incidence of OC in women who have suffered from infertility.

I know how that episode of losing tissue frightened you. It happened to me. I was only 16 years old. They had decided to put me on birth control pills continually, so that my periods would stop. Consequently, the endometrium (lining of the uterus) that is normally shed during your period was collecting inside. Suddenly one day I had these awful cramps and out this thing came. I eventually found out is was a mass of endometrial tissue. I stopped the birth control pills not long after that.
My situation started in 1970, so you can imagine that there wasn't a lot of information then. And, as I mentioned in my earlier post, every doctor I went to thought I was just a 'whiny teenager'. Anyway, things have changed a great deal. So much more is known about the disease. The laparoscopy will diagnosis you once and for all. And, although I'm not up on the current treatments, I'm sure there's something to help you. Try this website:

I'll be praying for you - Please don't be afraid - just find a good doctor who will be on top of this. Express your fears and concerns and I'm sure they'll be able to answer your questions. And come back and let us know how it goes. We're here for you!

I had no history or even family history that would have hinted that I would be hit with a diagnosis of OVCA. Completely clueless.
From the Anticancer book: "You can't be healthy when the planet is sick." I believe there is a strong environmental connection with cancer--especially hormonally-based cancers.
No one really understands endometriosis but it goes away after menopause & estrogenic chemicals make it worse. Unfortunately, endo is often not even diagnosed in a lot of women who suffer from it--just another one of the great medical mysteries.0 -
