A Question

I'm having trouble finding a bra that fits. I had reconstuction Oct.29, 2010. My old bra size is too small. The main problem is I need a bigger size around but once you get past a 42 the cups start losing padding I need to even things out. Any suggestions? I hope this made since.

    Bra help
I have struggled with this issue as well. While my surgery was a success, I still need a lil help to look "womanly" or curvy, rather than mis-shapen :) I have found a solution that works for me, hopefully this helps.
There are small cup shaped pads that you can get from "image recovery" centers or places similar; where they sell mastectomy items. I have a set of these pads and I have found a VERY soft cotton bra with no pads, at Target no less! I simply slip my cup shaped pads inside this cotton bra. These pads have been a Life Saver for me!! Shapes me up yet no pressure on my implants :) I was bigger than a 42 at first and this was a great alternative since there are no Department Stores in my area that offer the service to alter your bra post mastectomy. I have read other's posts, but I cant remember what store offers that, however I'm sure someone will chime in and say which store offers this service. Good luck!

    Try JoAnns or some other

Try JoAnns or some other fabric store, they sell the padded pieces for bras that you might be able to slip into your bra.

I know what you mean about trying to even it out. I have had to go one size bigger all round and wear a padded bra which makes me look even bigger than I am. It will be good to have the final round of recon. completed.

    Nordstroms
    Hi Janie,

Do you have a Nordstroms nearby? They are experienced in fitting women who've had MX and reconstruction. The one nearest to me is 2.5 hours away and it was well worth driving up there. Also, if you have any Masectomy stores near you, they can be helpful.

Here are some links to some bigger bras. I've never found my size in a store, only online. There ARE bras in your size ... you may just have to hunt a little to find some. Here are some links:

Take care and I hope you find something that will work for you! :)

    Have you tried your local
Have you tried your local medical supply places? They often have certified fitters there - the only certified fitter within 300 miles of us works at one of local ones. Our local Penney's has a woman who is a great fitter (but not certified). I like the ones I've bought through her better than the ones that have been bought through the medical supply place. Size isn't an issue for me (I'm 36 C) but some just don't fit all that well with my pros. You can have the med. supply order in the size you think will fit and then try it on when it's in - if it doesn't fit - you don't buy it.

There are ones out there that will fit/work for you - it takes time to find them though - and probably not cheap (well that would depend on the price bras you've always bought - me I'm 'cheap' and never spent more than $15 on a bra in my life - til now.

You will find the right answer!

    Hope this helps
I am very uneven as I had my mastectomies and reconstructions at different times and years. These days I buy a set of 2 silicone "falsies" at Dillard's dept store for about $50. I just use one of them until it wears out and then the other. They don't have a right and left and they don't have nipples--they're just silicone enhancers made for women who want to enhance.

I use just one to even me out when I wear some of my knit tops. I can't wear it for swimming as it is too heavy for most suits and I really swim.

I don't know if that is your problem, but they might help smooth you out?

My cancer center has lots of
My cancer center has lots of bras for bc women. And, there also are specialty stores that cater to women with bc. You might ask your oncologist or his nurse, they might know.
