QUESTIONS ABOUT XELODA SIDE EFFECTS
I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT THE SIDE EFFECTS OF THE XELODA PILLS. RICK(HUBBY) STARTED THE XELODA THE LAST PART OF DECEMBER(HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN ON FU5). THAT ROUND SEEMED OK, JUST MINOR SIDE EFFECTS. HE STARTED HIS NEXT ROUND IN JANUARY AND AFTER THE END OF THE FIRST WEEK DEVELOPED HAND AND FOOT(?). OF COURSE WHEN THE ONCOLOGIST SAW WHAT HAD HAPPEN HE TOLD HIM TO SMOTHER THEM IN VASILINE AND NOT TO USE THE LOTIONS BECAUSE THEY WERE BEYOND THAT. HIS HANDS WERE PRETTY BAD, SWOLLEN, UNABLE TO GRIP ANYTHING, REDDISH, PURPLISH ALMOST LIKE THEY WERE ROTTED LOOKING. HE HAS NOT HAD ANY CHEMO SINCE THEN HE HAS COMPLETED 4 ROUNDS AND WE HAVE DENTAL APPOINTMENTS PENDING TO GET ALL THAT IN ORDER BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH RADIATION.HE IS COMPLAINING EVERY SO OFTEN HOW THE SIDE EFFECTS ARE FLARING UP AND WORKING THERE WAY OUT OF HIS HANDS. HOW LONG DO THE SIDE EFFECTS FROM XELODA LAST? IS IT DIFFERENT FOR EACH PERSON? IS THERE A BALLPARK FIGURE? I DON'T WANT HIM IN ANY DISCOMFORT AND NOT FAMILIAR WITH ANY OF THIS. I HAVE TRIED TO GOOGLE SOME INFORMATION BUT BECOME OVERWHELMED WITH EVERYTHING(TRYING TO DO RESEARCH AND DEAL WITH LIFE HAPPENINGS). I JUST WANT TO HELP. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

GLAD TO READ THAT YOUR HUSBAND DIDN'T HAVE SEVERE SIDE EFFECTS. THAT IS WONDERFUL. IT HAS BEEN QUITE A WHILE SO I THOUGHT HE WOULD BE PAST THIS PART BUT HE ISN'T. THE DOCTOR SAID HE SHOULD BE BY NOW TOO. THEY LOOK MUCH BETTER THAN THEY DID AND ARE FUNCTIONAL AGAIN. I AM JUST TRYING TO FIGURE IT OUT. THEY DON'T GET RED AND HAVE STOPPED PEELING WEEKS AGO. HE IS ABLE TO USE HIS NETBOOK AND TEXT ON HIS PHONE BUT IF HE DROPS SOMETHING OR I TELL HIM TO WASH HIS HANDS I GET THE WHOLE SONG AND DANCE ABOUT THE FLAREUPS. I DO NOT WANT TO SAY HE IS MILKING THIS NOR DO I WANT TO MISS SOMETHING ELSE IT MIGHT BE. JUST TRYING TO GET A PERSPECTIVE ON THIS.0 -
Xeloda
It is my understanding that Xeloda is the pill form of 5FU. My hubby (Stage IV Colon) has not had Xeloda, just 5FU.
Many, many people on the Colorectal Board have taken Xeloda and it is discussed very often.
Pop on over to the colorectal board and post your questions on this drug and the members will respond, they are a wealth of information. You can also put Xeloda in the search box and many, many discussions will come up. If you want to search it, go over to the colorectal board and put it in that search box.

my apologies
please except my apologies for all capitals. i only have excess to the internet through my phone unless i go to someone's house, which is usually my mother's. the capitals just make it easier to see on my phone.
thank you for the information about other discussion boards. i will try those and see if they have a solution to this. he is getting better from what i can tell. yes, the doctor said that xeloda is the pill form of 5fu. it chemically changes once in the body. rick was taking it for head and neck cancer.
have a wonderful day
