We invited some of our dear dutch friends over for an 'American' meal...

Well, at least for my family, in the spring...

It was chicken taquitos with guac (appetizer), roast lamb, scalloped potatoes, green bean casserole, and persimmon cookies with ice cream...mmmmm!

....And I did it all myself!!! I'm soooo proud!

What would YOUR dinner be?

    Not necessarily nutritionally sound but--
    here goes:

    Bar-b-qued pork ribs
    Baked beans
    Pasta salad
    Corn on the cob
    Deep dish apple pie

    (Only about 2,000 calories!!!)

Hot dogs and a can of baked
Hot dogs and a can of baked beans. I'm not known as a good cook. But I'm a wizard with a microwave (that just means I know how to push it's buttons).

We'll have to ask my husband since I don't cook. I do mow the lawn, though:)

It changes from season to season....
In the winter, it's completely dark by 4pm. So, dinner usually starts about 6:30 or so...guests are usually invited for 'borrel' (drinks and munchies) about 4:30-5:00.

In summer, the sun is still blazing at 6, so dinner is pushed back to a cooler 7:30 or 8:00. Afterward, it's still light until 10pm..so plenty of time to go for a walk or a bike ride to work off dinner...

The Dutch are usually very prompt. There is not as much 'fashionably late' as in So Cal.

For we "hybrids" (lol), at home, when no guests are coming, we usually eat between 7:30 and 8pm...but we do that in America, also...

Now, when we went to Spain, well, restaurants didn't even open really much before 9pm. Normal dinner is at about 10pm. It has to do with the nap they take in the afternoon, I think...lol!

Marcia, I would KILL right now for a 'dodger dog'....
    I ask for a hotdog here....and I get a sausage-looking thing....delicious, but NOT an 'American dog'!!

Victoria, I don't get to cook often, either....
my beau is the cook, I am the baker.....and the souchef! and the dishwasher!

If you look very closely at what I made, it cooked in the oven. All of it....lol!

Vicki, I thought about apple pie, too...
But the Dutch have a specialty called 'Apeltaart'...and it is very close to our apple pie...VERY yummy, but I thought persimmon was a bit more distinct!

It was, Kylez...or so our friends thought....
...and the challenge was to find things that went into the meal...

Green Bean casserole needs condensed mushroom soup...no Campbell's cans here...lol

My dessert (the cookie part) called for baking soda. Nope! Finally found it in a pharmacy...bicarbonate of soda...WHEW!
