I have a question, my mom has breast cancer that has mestastasis to her liver. During our last visit her oncologist mentioned that her tumors were close to the top layer of her liver. I feel stupid because I didn't ask at the time, but I quite don't understand what that means in terms of diagnosis or prognosis. Can that be one of the reasons she has constant abdominal pain? I am sorry that I seem not as informed but I am bit overwhelmed most of the time these days.

Thanks for any information, input or advice you can give me.

Yessy

    Hi Yessy,Don't feel stupid,
    Hi Yessy,

Don't feel stupid, you're not. It's hard to know what to ask in the Dr. office. I suggest you write down your questions and contact the doctor. They should get back to you about all your concerns including your mom's abdominal pain. We'd be guessing here, we're not qualified to answer that.
One of the gems I got from a cancer website was, Don't be intimidated by any doctor. So I always have a list of questions and he answers all of them, one by one, very thoroughly.

Best Wishes, your mom's lucky to have your support,

Perhaps re-post with specific question as subject?
    Hi, Yessy -

I'm sorry, I don't know anything about liver metastasis myself, but just wanted to suggest that you might want to re-post your question with something more specific as the subject line -- perhaps "Question about liver metastasis" or something like that.

It's easy for a general subject line like "Question?" to just get lost among all the others, and something more specific would get the attention of the other ladies here who I know would be able to give you some helpful information about metastasis. A lot of us come here and scan the subject lines for ones that we know something about, and may skip the others.

Just a suggestion -- I'll be watching to see what information I can learn, too!

    I'm not a doctor, wish I
I'm not a doctor, wish I was, so, I can't really help you. Lin is right, write down your questions and insist on getting answers when you see the doctor. Let us know what you find out.

    Good luck!

today is her next onc appt
I am not there since my sister is visiting and wanted to be the one to go with her. It feels weird not being there with them but since it was just a follow up to her having shingles and blood work I let them go with out me. Of course, my sister calls me now and tells me that the onc says that there might be something wrong with her liver besides the cancer and they are now going to run a catscan. I am confused, because we just had one day a few weeks ago, as well as an MRI and everything was the same as before when she was diagnosed. Not sure what to think.

    Question?
Have you asked about your Mom getting the shingles vaccine after this flare up is over? I don't know if it's an option once you've had shingles or not but there is a vaccine that you can get if you've never had them - got mine in Nov.

    Liver is not functioning properly....
It seems the new diagnosis is that her liver is not functioning properly and the doctor does not know why this is happening. She has send her for more blood work and tomorrow more scans. We will get results on Monday and depending the findings she is recommending a liver specialist. Today's news is not very encouraging of things to come. Has this happened to anyone?
