I asked my onc to do a PET scan today

Well, I am about to the end of rope. I called my nurse today to ask my onc to do a pet scan today. I am tired of my armpit and boob hurting so bad. I'm having more and more nightsweats and I've had it. I'm doing the therapy for the lymphedema and don't seem to be getting anywhere with it. The pain just keeps on...never stops.

She called back and said he said that's fine. I am waiting for her to call me and schedule it, she's trying to get my dexa scan done at the same time so I don't have to take off more than one day from work. I love that she cares enough to make it convenient for me :)

I know I haven't been around much lately. How is everyone doing around here?

Thanks for letting me vent..

Beth

    Good luck..
    Hi Beth,
The lymphedema is really a pain, and if yours is anything like my Aunt's, it takes forever to get it under control and manageable. She is still having problems and it's been 12 years of off and on flare ups. Her right arm seems to always be swollen and she still goes in for therapy on a weekly basis. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. Can I ask you what a dexa scan is done for? I've never heard of it before is why I'm asking. I will keep you in my prayers and be thinking good positive thoughts for you. Be sure to let us know when you get the scans done and of course share the results afterwards. Take care Beth, and remember your venting is always welcomed. Lord knows we gotta vent!

    Dexa
    Hi Sue,
A dexa scan is for bone density. To check for osteoporosis. I am surprised that you have not had one yet. Maybe you should look into having it sometime.
I am glad to hear that you made it through your R infusion so well. If your worst SE is being tired, then just plan on napping and resting a lot.
    Stay warm and well.

    Thinking postive thoughts
    Hi Beth,
Nice to hear from you, but so sorry that your having so much pain. I really know what that is like. I do hope that you will be able to get your pet and dexa done soon. The night sweats would worry me, so I would be asking for a pet also. Hang in there and keep us posted.

    Bone density scan/dexa
    Hi Lisha,
I've had two bone density tests in the last 8 years, but never heard my PCP use the term dexa scan. He just sent me to a clinic and I had the scan done. He said as soon as I went off of the HRT (premerin) he will send me every 2 years for the scan. I guess the premerin helps to keep the bones strong, but once off of it we will need to check the bone density more often. I've been done with HRT since September, so I'm sure this year in May when I go in for my physical he will schedule my mammogram and bone scan to be done. He has me taking extra calcium since I'm no longer taking the premerin. No-one in my family suffers from osteoporosis, so thats a good thing. Thanks for explaining to me.

    Great Bones
    Hi Sue,
Happy that you have great strong bones. try your best to keep them that way. I have osteoporosis from the drug I take daily to try and keep the thyroid ca from running rampant. HA, I guess it really did not help in that department. Oh well, you got to do what you got to do to try and stay in the game..
    Thinking of you always,

    Night sweats
I have never had a night sweat.Hope I never do.I may have had one when I was sick with a temperature years ago,but not really sure. I hear they are drenching and it soaks the whole bed. If thats true then it would scare the s*&% out of me. I would be on the phone with somebody real quick. The only sweating I had was when I was in treatment I would notice a little sweat would drip off my hair and land on my shoulder while on the computer. It was never that much but still concerned me a little. I believe the dexa scan is usually for people with osteo arthritis checking for bone density.Prednisone in low doses of 7-8 mgs. a day can weaken and thin the bones. Then again every drug on the market has some sort of side effect on our bodies.Fortunately thats another thing that does not run on my side of the family. I think it is a dominate gene though and is passed on readily. My side of the family just has the CRAZY gene so I guess we are pretty fortunate.:) John(FNHL-1-4A-5/10)

    scans
I am too young to be dealing with the osteporosis, but what can I say. It's my gift of chemo and rads. I've been doing Reclast for the last two years and he's wanting this scan to see if I can get off of it since I'll be due to it in April. Last year I had to do it since I had that fracture in my hip ...another gift of rads.

I am hoping I can be done with it. Although chemo brought on menopause so I'm in it for the long haul.

Hopefully the scan will show continued remission and maybe something simple for the pain. I really hope the Rituxan maintenance is keeping the lymphoma in check. Fingers toes and eyes are crossed!

    Take care everyone,
    Beth

    Praying for you
    Hi, Beth,

Ha, I keep everything in my body crossed for you in hopes for your good luck!! I had PET scan few days ago and will discuss result next Wed. Although, I learned I am in remission since Dec. I was to have the scan again because my treatments are done - oh well. I too felt more hot flashes not like before - was it from chemo or menopause or even from the scans, huh? Really, my body is just going through so much that I don't know what is going on!! Anyway, I send you positive thoughts along the way.

    Hugs,
    Liz

    hopefully soon
    Hi Beth
I hope he can fit it in soon as waiting is just causing you more anxiety. I hope it all goes well. Could you have pulled a muscle in that area? Make sure you stay on them for results. My Dr get the results within the day. I think most do. I am praying for good results. Blessings Joanie
