Hi David, I know how you
Hi David, I know how you feel, even though mine has just been going on since 2008. For the fourth time, my throat is closing. The last dilation lasted longer than the others. My doctor has told me to let him know when I'm ready for another dilation. It's hasn't got to the point I'm grating my food, so I'm putting it off. The last time, I quit taking all medication I thought might be an irritant, such as acid reflux med's, and arthritis medicine. I don't know if it helped, but I do know I have been in more pain with arthur.
The doctor has told me surgery to correct the problem would be major, so I'm not concidering it. Mine is not bad enough to reguire a feeding tube. I'm blessed.
    Good luck, Sandra

Dave so sorry to see you are having so much trouble
    Hi Dave,
So sorry that you are having so much trouble. You have been going thru so much post op problems it doesn't seem fair. I hope that the new drs looking at this can do something to give you relief. It doesn't seem like you ever had a functioning resection. Maybe William is right and it has not been straight or pulled up the right way. My prayers and thoughts will be with you. You were such a help to me during my 3 months of J tube problems, I want you to be able to have a normal life without stenting all the time and j tubes. take care,

    My husband has graduated to
My husband has graduated to 8 weeks for dilation. His surgery was April 19th 2010, he started dilation in June and was going every 10 days, they said it was not normal, and even 2 months is not normal, but we keep moving the dates out.

We talked about a stent, but after researching this we found to many complications, some life threatining. One thing they recommended was for my husband to do self dilation from home, it is not something he chose to do, but is an option if he decides to in the future.

I would be interested if anyone else has done this.

    Bougie dilator
I have had some success with self-dilators (bougies). You should talk to your doctor about this option.

    William, The reason I quit
William, The reason I quit taking arthritis medicine is because it will cause irritation to the esophagus and stomach. It seemed The doctor was never able to completely stretch it,because the esophagus was to inflamed, so I decided to quit on my own. I'll see if next time I still have inflamation. I started reading side effects on the reflux meds, and wanted to see how I would do without it. So far, if I stay on my wedge, I don't have a problem. But oh me, if I roll off. I don't know anything about the self-dilators. I think I might ask about it.
