You're doing fine Bobby
Good luck on the scan tomorrow. Y'know, I hate saying good luck since I don't believe luck has anything to do with it.
I think I'll try, Good Blessings for you scan tomorrow, whatever the outcome your faith will make it good.
Take care, Chris0 -
The more the merrier
Hey Bobby, good to see you here unfortunatley I have to correct you. If you spend any time here or look around you will see that not everyone on this forum believes in God, or any religion for that matter. A few people come on here to debate the existence of God and the validity of religious beliefs. That is OK and makes for good discussion sometimes so don't get too upset when people start calling you out on your beliefs. This forum is not for those who believe but for the "discussion" of the "forbidden" subjects of religion, prayer and spirituality... So, that being said, POST ON BROTHER.... WE can use a couple more Christians in here... And Jews and Buddhists and Mormons, you can never have enough Mormons and Wiccans too but please, no more Aethiests and Agnostics. They should really get their own forum... Right below this one....LOL ....
Hey, by the way, are there any Scientologists on here? I wonder if they get cancer too???0 -

Luck has nothing to do with anything except horse shoes and hand granades well at least that's what I grew up saying. I tend to believe in another four letter word that also starts with L but this one is much more powerful...LORD
Wow so you're saying that this page which is where I was told to go if I wanted to talk about God is not just for believers. You are saying that the same Yahoo's who ripped me over on the colon board also come here to start crap? So why is it that I am told to come here but they are not warned to stay out of here? Seems like who ever monitors these pages lives on a one way street.
Here is a wonderful pray to fight cancer for all my Christian brothers and sisters out there tonight.
Prayer to Saint Peregrine
O great St. Peregrine, you have been called "The Mighty," "The Wonder-Worker," because of the numerous miracles which you have obtained from God for those who have had recourse to you.
For so many years you bore in your own flesh this cancerous disease that destroys the very fibre of our being, and who had recourse to the source of all grace when the power of man could do no more. You were favoured with the vision of Jesus coming down from His Cross to heal your affliction. Ask of God and Our Lady, the cure of the sick whom we entrust to you.
(Pause here and silently recall the names of the sick for whom you are praying)
Aided in this way by your powerful intercession, we shall sing to God, now and for all eternity, a song of gratitude for His great goodness and mercy.

Got fingers and toes crossed for a good scan result tomorrow. Also threw in a prayer for you and your family. You are way too young to be experiencing this cancer and I am sorry for that.
Take care - Tina
May a thousand angels surround you and your loved ones in this time of waiting. That the Lord bless you with good results and free your heart to experience happiness and love. May you have continued strength and courage. Amen.

Chris
Chris,
For many years I have said that prayer for loved ones. I think it started when a family member was about to have surgery, as I prayed for them, I visualized the surgery room, and believed that angels would surround her, as well as the medical team. From that day forward, I have always prayed that for folks in need of protection, of comfort, of peace.
When my granddaughter was born, she had some complications, and I prayed that God would send a thousand angels to surround her and protect her. When my beloved husband would be having a procedure or radiation, I would always pray that over him before they took him in.
When my love passed away, I felt, really physically felt, the presence of angels in our room as he took his last breaths! I felt that not only had the Lord sent angels to take Dennis home to Him, but one for each of us present, to comfort us and show us the gift of His promise of eternal life! I'm not making this stuff up, I literally got up from our bed when he was gone, looked around the room, and asked everyone if they had felt what I had felt? Perhaps my faith and all those times I prayed that for others, came back for me!

Fear
Actually fighting cancer without god IS terrible, but for those of us who believe otherwise or do not know, there is little we can do but struggle through it without the spiritual underpinning you have.
We cannot suddenly lie to ourselves and say that now that the chips are down we are going to believe. I am assuming that the majority of those you call 'yahoos' have personal integrity and would like nothing better than to receive some sign of a deity.
Now, I don't believe that Jesus spent much time calling people 'yahoos'. The only incident that comes close to such an occasion would be when he flipped out in the temple, where the 'believers' had turned the holy site into a market, sort of like the tv evangelical shows.
In any event, this board, as far as I know, is for all who want to discuss spirituality, including debate of the fundamental issues. If that strikes fear in your heart or discontent in your soul, you know that there other options.
Take care,

I'm fighting cancer without god, where's the problem?
I have good doctors, I have my family, I have my friends, I have my co-workers, and my very best friends - the scientists and chemists who study half a lifetime to bring us the tools to fight cancer with. It's not terrible at all

Give me a good team of doctors any day. Some like to feel that everything will be OK no matter what and/or it's part of a bigger plan. I prefer to be in the here and now than to wait for a possible hereafter. Whatever works for each person is what matters.0 -

I think a good team of doctor's is really crucial. However I do say 'Thank God' I am here in the US with good doctor's rather than in Niger(where our family lives) with inadequate health care for even the minor of health issues. 'THank God' I have health insurance, a roof over my head, food in the fridge ...
I too can wait for the hereafter as I am enjoying the 'here and now'. Everything 'is' alright.0 -

I Thank God for many things and for the strength to get us through Jimmy's illness. I don't know where our family would be right now without God and our faith.0 -
My two cents for what they are worth...
I was raised with the opportunity to experience various religions and belief systems and I usually tackled them with all I could in an effort to follow and believe...be a dutiful Christian soldier. But in the end I always felt as if I was lying to myself and to others as I just couldn't swallow the pill, so to speak.
Some days I claim atheism, and some days I claim agnosticism. Some days I don't bother claiming anything. I don't care for labels, never have. I am who I am. I think as I do...and I continue to educate myself and listen to others in an effort to understand because I truly enjoy a good discussion on religion and/or someone's belief system, not necessarily religious. I think it is not only healthy to question but necessary if one is going to firmly plant their feet in comfort with themselves regardless of belief.
I post not to cause debate, though I love to debate. I post simply to say as many have already stated, whatever gets you through the day, through life is fine with me. I also agree that I would take medicine any day over prayer in a true effort to treat my cancer...it only makes sense.
I am a very happy, content, and confident person for the most part. If God does exist I would like to think he/she/they/it knows me as is claimed by Christians. As such, God would know what is in my heart, what I have done, what I haven't done and how I really feel. I don't feel slighted in the least for not believing in one faith or path. I am a free thinker with tendencies to live the Golden rule and feel extremely confident that you, the believe, and I, the unknowing and often non-believer will end up in the same place. The other side for me is a continuation of my soul, my essence, my spirit and as such will most likely recycle back into this earthly world to learn another lesson or two. I believe in spirits, in communication between the "worlds" and the logical.
So, no, it isn't awful living with cancer and without knowing a God exists.
By the same token I am thrilled for you that believe because this is your comfort zone and it brings you the strength and resolve you need to carry on. I think that if there is a God, he/she/they/it knows this about each of us and it will all balance out in the end. I lean toward a more Buddhist philosophy to date and it carries me through.
Thank you for your time,

I read your post
Kelley,
I read your post with interest, however, I would like to point out that I do not consider my faith to be a comfort zone. The comfort zone is a behavioural state within which a person operates in an anxiety-neutral condition, using a limited set of behaviours to deliver a steady level of performance, usually without a sense of risk.
Faith - on the other hand is an act of trust or reliance. Rather than being passive, faith leads to an active life of obedience to the one being trusted. It sees the mystery of God and his grace and seeks to know and become obedient to God. faith is not static but causes one to learn more of God and grow; it has its origin in God. In Christianity faith causes change as it seeks a greater understanding of God.
I really don't consider my faith to be a comfort zone although, for me, it is very comforting. I do think there is a difference between someone's faith and their comfort zone. For example: I worked in a hospital for 19 yrs and did not want to leave it because that was my comfort zone even though it was a place that I no longer had a chance to grow. With my faith, I learn and explore something new all the time. Especially since my husbands illness. I find that the more challenges I have the more I grow in my faith. I'm not saying this is an easy journey, by far it is very difficult but my faith is helping me along the way. If I were in a comfort zone, I think I would just crawl up and not be brave enough to challege this fight, but I believe my faith is giving me the strength and direction I need to help my husband through this ordeal.
Best to you,
