Pain Meds

Welcome
Hello teresam and welcome to you and your husband. From what I have learned, always go with your gut feelings. Call today and see if his appt. can be moved up. My dad was a "Mr Tough Guy" as well. He would take ibuproven most of the time, but when the pain got worse it was a liquid form of Roxicet that did the trick. Why suffer and be in pain anymore than you have to? Just make sure he takes the pain med as prescribed and watch out for any side effects. These pain meds tend to make them quite mellow, and sleepy. We will be thinking and praying for you both. Let us know how the dr appt goes.

I have a unusual experience with pain medication. I've been given morphine, all the condones, tramadol, and now dilaudid all with the same result. Everything except the tramadol takes care of the pain, I don't hurt so bad but it all keeps me awake. Just like I've had a couple of pots of strong coffee.
Anyone else experience this?0 -

i allso take pain meds for my liver cancer and some other illness's, i find if i take it to late in the day it will keep me up or make it real hard to fall asleep, i keep zannys and valums on hand for those realy hard nights. tell your hubby a pain free body is a happy body for two reasons, first he wont be dealing with pain all the time. and 2nd because he is not in pain all the time his mind will not allways be thinking about it. there for he may feel a lot better in mind and body.im a tuff guy myself but it dont make you any less of a man takeing pain meds.if they help you and make life a little easyer why not.i was allso on the oc 20,s for a year then changed over to opna 20's,if not for my pain meds i would not be able to move.i hope the meds work for him and he feels much better realy soon.nice meeting you both. dont be a stranger0 -

Hi KenJones...I had a liver resection Jan 2011 and I'm still on pain meds. I'm not sure this is normal or not. Hydocodone seems to take the edge off for me.0 -

Ok, so I guess I needed to ask where is the pain! Stomach or liver? Or somewhere else?0 -

the liver does not have pain or produce pian in it self,, if you feel pain in that area it is something else,
i take my pain meds for things other than the cancer. im sure the cancer is adding to them but i cant say the cancer is causeing me pain because i cant be sure,0 -
Pain from mets to spineslg said:Pain

Slg, I too understand that there is usually no pain with liver cancer, or in the liver at least, maybe some upper quadrant pain. My brother has advanced hcc with spinal mets, he also has many other painful complications..such as gall stones. The pain he has from the spinal tumors can not be described. He takes so much pain meds that most people would not be awake at all. He is using a high dose of fentanyl patch, wearing 2 patches and oxycodone ir for breakthrough every two hours as needed. I am amazed that he can function, however the amount of that pain he has, calls for that dosage. Strangely enough, he only sleeps in spurts. I can't remember our household sleeping more than three hours, at the longest, in over 3 months, and that has been rare. Believe it or not with all the meds that he is taking he is still in excruciating pain and it is increasing daily. Right now our hope is that it is not too soon for the Rad Onc to try for more palliative radiation. So my round the world point is, that, the pain is usually from mets to another area or organ. We have yet to find someone else with spinal mets from primary liver, fortunately!

Oh my goodness it looks like my computer went crazy on my replies...sorry...my pain is on the upper right side and I'm not sure what body part is actually causing pain. I have lost a lot of weight prior to and after my liver resection and my oncologist and liver surgeon both feel I'm feeling my colon expanding....very strange feeling...I just want it to go away0
