This is TOO good to keep to myself!

Ladies,
one of the worst side effects we all experience is anxiety.
I myself had a bad case of it. Did not take any medication,
maybe I should have in hindsight. But I found something
better now.
Meditation - don't worry no humming or chanting. I found
this great DVD. And would you believe it- I actually fell
asleep during the relaxation phase... I have NEVER napped
in my life before. And I felt great after, I am hooked.
So I thought I share, it starts with a few very easy yoga
moves and then goes over into meditation. I LOVED it.
And hope someone else can benefit from it, as I did.

Funny you should mentionlynn1950 said:Jon Kabat-Zinn also has some
Jon Kabat-Zinn also has some great tapes. Meditation has really helped me, too. I used it to HELP me fall asleep when I needed it. zzzzzzzzzzzzz........ xoxoxoxo Lynn
Funny you should mention meditation and Jon Kabat-Zinn because I want to get one of his books. I saw him speak last year at UCLA. It sounds like a great stress defuser. Glad to hear it provided some relief for you Ayse. We all have to deal with stress. It's part of life. Having had cancer just puts a different spin on things.

Thanks for the tip!
I have added it to my store of 'important information'!
At this point, with all of my non-cancer stress (mom, etc), I make sure to walk, alone, everyday. There is a park nearby that is beautiful, regardless of the season. On my walk yesterday, I saw the first signs of spring...a few green shoots coming up that will become a carpet of yellow blooms in a month or so....

Yoga
It does help! I started yoga and mediation 5 weeks ago...I am 17 months out of all treatment, but still have some anxiety over the "what if's" so I decided, at a friends urging, to try this...I LOVE IT! I've had some issues with connective tissue being tight and muscle spasms on my right side, that my oncologist said can be caused by the radiation to that area. I have seen much improvement! The stretching has really helped. And the meditation part is heavenly. I've started it at home also...I just sit quietly, clear my mind, not easy, and try to think about nothing for 10 minutes...It's hard to get started but well worth it..I also found yoga harder than it looks but is so rewarding..I'm taking it two evenings a week...I can highly recommend

Kaiser has free
Kaiser has free meditation/guided imagery downloads at KP.org. They are for specific situations, for example weight loss, chemotherapy, radiation, fight cancer, anxiety/stress, surgery, surgery healing, walking meditation, etc. They're all 20 to 30 minutes. I've been listening now for a couple of months, and have found it very helpful.
Anyone interested, send me a PM and I'll give you more specific directions to find the downloads.
