13 yr old with Pilocytic Astrocytoma

My niece is 13 years old and was diagnosed with pilocytic astrocytoma on September 30th, 2010. The baseball-sized tumor was removed successfully on October 4th, 2010. When this first happened, the doctors told us there would be a week of recovery and a month of physical therapy. She was in ICU for six weeks and is currently still recovering in the hospital.
After the surgery, she was diagnosed with a condition called cerebellar mutism. She still isn't talking, but this past week, she started writing full sentences. The first thing she wrote was "I saw God." After she wrote this, she started writing things that were very negative and out of character for her. We are so glad she has writing abilities back, but the things she is writing is worrisome to us. I am not sure which condition this is a side effect of (if it is a side effect) and I haven't been able to find anything online about it.
The doctors at the hospital just keep telling us that every child recovers differently, but they haven't seen this type of behavior from any other patients.
Has this happened to anyone else? Any feedback about this condition/ recovery time would be great.
