LOS ANGELES – David Nelson, who starred on his parents' popular television show "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet," has died, a family spokesman said. He was 74.

Nelson, who was battling complications of colon cancer, died Tuesday at his Los Angeles home, said family spokesman and longtime Hollywood publicist Dale Olson.

Nelson was the last remaining member of the Nelsons TV family, which included actor/bandleader Ozzie, his singer wife, Harriet Hilliard and his teen idol brother Rick. The show originated on radio in 1952 as "Here Come the Nelsons," then ran for 320 episodes on TV from 1952 to 1966 as "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" with some of the story lines taken from the stars' own lives. David Nelson also directed and produced numerous episodes of the show throughout its run.

Singer Gunnar Nelson, a son of Rick Nelson, issued a statement Wednesday, saying his uncle's death was "a great loss to the Nelson family."

"We will all miss Uncle Dave's laughter and evolved sense of humor," Gunnar Nelson said.

I love Ozzie and Harriet. Had a HUGE crush on Ricky Nelson. I know most of you will have no idea who I'm talking about, but this was a huge part of my childhood and teen years.

    Interesting...

They always state it like this:
"Nelson, who was battling complications of colon cancer, died"

    "Battling complications of cancer"

They won't say that the chemo or radiation had taken it's toll, and
they can't say that it was the cancer itself, that had killed him........

    It was the "complications".

Every time I read those words in obituaries, I know how important it is
to try to get people to understand the pitfalls of present mainstream
treatments, and the benefits of alternative ways.

"Battling complications of cancer" has been a catch-phrase
that I can no longer pass over; I dwell on it, lingering and knowing
that there are indeed other ways to survive that do not have
    "complications" that kill.

I hope we all fare well, regardless of our chosen path.

    I remember
Yes, the Nelson family was one of my favorite shows as a kid and Ricky was definately a crush.

I don't recall hearing that David was battling colon cancer. So many times we don't know until the obituary.

    Thanks for posting this.

    So sorry to hear this.
So sorry to hear this. Diane, I know exactly who you are talking about 'cause I had a crush on Ricky also! Loved his songs like "Poor Little Fool", danced to his records (that's RECORDS as in 45s, for those who don't know him).

    Hi Diane
Yes, I read this in the newspaper this morning. Although Ozzie and Harriet was made when my mom was a teen, I still enjoyed watching the reruns for a while when I was a kid.
Missed you lately, Diane- hope all is going well for you!

    Hugs,
    Lisa

    That is sad. I remember
That is sad. I remember watching reruns of The Ozzy and Harriet show when I was little and always thought Ricky was hot too. It was sad when he died in that plane crash.

Stage 4 throat cancer and Nelson Dies
Throat cancer is different, it refers to "locally advanced" like to the mouth.

Nelson. Dies of a result of a lifetime of drinking warm coke. Interesting

    So sad
    Diane,

I read that today and was very sad. I loved watching that show when I was younger, and when I've seen David Nelson in interviews through the years, he always seemed like such a nice man. I had not heard before his death that he had colon cancer.
