thx all
I only came up with this on the internet. a web page from "scientific american" by Valter Longo, a U.S.C. gerontologist and co-author of the new study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA:

just wondered if this had been put into practice by any of you. im just clutching at straws here guys. i also read about complimentary treatment to chemo in the way of "hyperthermia therapy" sounds promising too.
xxxxxxxxxxYou are smart to seek this out! There is great fear of fasting in our society, but more food doesn't always make you stronger! See the video at this link- http://fasten.tv/en/vortraege/longo As in much research, they saw the effects in lab animals before they started running human trials. Apparently it is working in humans!

Fasting BEFORE Chemopete43lost_at_sea said:I always try to eat well prior to chemo
I sort of view it as the last good meal for a couple days.
Getting maximum nutricion i thought was important. not heard of the study before.
peteThe results show that fasting 48 hours ahead of time reduces nausea significantly, so you can eat well while the chemo is going on. See http://fasten.tv/en/vortraege/longo

Excellent links!Karrie42 said:Fasting is definitely worth a try!
Hi Gabrielle,
I have also been following this research. I have the privilege of having access to medical research articles from my university, but there have also been several articles in the news lately as well. This research looks very promising - so much so that the Mayo clinic has started a clinical trial. My Dad starts chemo this wed. and we are definitely giving the fasting a try! He may not be up for it the rest of the treatment, but at least we can hit this thing with everything we have for the first round.
Here are some links:

And a quote from one of the articles:
“The take-home message for oncologists should be to consider it and decide whether, based on each specific case and the options available, it is reasonable to suggest fasting to the patient before clinical trials are completed,”

Unfotrunately, this post is many years old, and several of our friends whose post appear here have been taken away from us by the dreaded Cancer.
I hope you start a new thread and introduce yourself.
And as an aside. I used to fast monthly. It is a very healthy thing to do. I had never heard of fasting before a surgery, and it is something I would have happily done.
Hopefully, I won't ever have another surgery, but if I do, I will definitely consider this.
