Member Posts: 1
I'm new to this site so please bear with me. I guess I'm new at cancer too. My sister age 48 has stage 4 colon cancer that has moved to her liver spine ,ribs and hip. She thought it was her galbladder this fall. It is all happpening too fast. She has had part of her colon removed and went through that with flying colors. She has started no other treatment yet. They are going to start radiation on her hip ,but I think it is just for comfort. I dont know what to do or what to expect ,HELP

I'm not sure if you and your sister are religious people but that's a great place to start. Right now you feel like someone has hit you over the head with a hammer. Stage 4 although scarey as he'll is not a death sentence anymore. Many people on this site has been living with it for years. I was diagnosed stage 4 in March and just finished my treatments. I will pray for your sister that God will be with her during this difficult time.
God Bless and prayers from Dallas,

Welcome
I'm sorry about your sister. You need to talk to the doctor, and find out what's going on.You said radiation, but what about chemo? She needs to get more opinions, and maybe tests. There is alot of stage 4 suvivers here, and everyone is different. They should also be starting other treatment also,I would think.Myself, and other people have done radiation, and chemo at the same time.Good luck,I hope you get some answers.I will pray for your sister.0 -
Listen
Hi,
Sorry about your sister. I think the best thing you can do for your sister is to listen to what she wants and needs. If she needs to cry, scream and holler at the world.....let her. We all go through this in our own way. Withdrawing into your own little world is very common. Let her have her space, but make sure she gets out with people whenever she feels up to it. Lonliness is a huge part of this disease. Don't stop calling because you are afraid you will "bother" her. She will let you know if she feels like talking.
If she wants your advice....she will also let you know. I know it is hard to try to help another person who is going through this crap, but honestly unsolicited advice can be very annoying. ( If one more person asks me how long do I have to live...I might kill them!! )
Sometimes accepting that there is nothing you can do yourself is the hardest part.
Listen....let her know how much you love her!
Take Care,
Barb0
