Advice Please!! UPDATE!
I was just wondering if any of you had any advice. my husband Jimmy has a tumor outside of the colon as it reseeded after his transverse colon resection 5 yrs ago and he has a lesion on his liver. He has been on Folfox since July with Avastin since October. His last treatment of both was 12/16/10 and he will go back on the Folfox next week and the Avastin in 3 wks because he is having teeth removed on Tuesday.
The problem is, he is now constipated x 1 day and is having slight pain in his lower abdomen. He won't go to the er. Is there a laxative that I can get him that will not be dangerous? Please let me know your thoughts.
Thank you,
Jan
Thank you all for the great responses. I spoke with the oncology nurse this morning and she suggested the miralax with a stool softener. So we are trying that 1st and then we'll go from there.
Thanks again.

Thank you Guys for your reply - I wasn't too worried about an obstruction, at first, as the tumor is no longer in his colon. I am hoping it's because he has been off the chemo for 3 wks and his body is adjusting, because he was taking anti-diarrhea pills while on the chemo.
If things don't improve soon I will make him go to the er.
Thank you

he is also taking "any" form of pain medication that will add to the constipation he has...what he needs to do though is the same as I did...he needs to not worry about the hospital, give up the goat, and just go to reassure the rest of you that all is ok, I had to quit worrying about me as much and I learned that others that love me suggest these things simply to pass on the love they shared for me, and to go to the ER would give them the peace of mind knowing that they have helped, if nothing is found then all is well, if there is something like a blockage then better dealt with as early as possible...Love to all of you.......Buzz0 -

Jan,
If it continues, I agree that the ER is the place to be. If it's not a blockage, I will recommend Miralax. I take it twice a day, every day, and I've had no problems with it.
*hugs*

I take in hot beverages, like tea or coffee, no change to the flavor, and kind of comforting at the same time...
If you can't get him to the ER at least reach out to a nurse through your Onc, insurance or the hospital.0 -
Tea
Every day it's Smooth Tea (Organic) Traditional Medicinals. It has helped me bunches from being constipated. Chemo can either give you constipation or the runs so it's a hard call. Taking a little prune juice every day can help too. Hope he's feeling better.
