esophageal spasms?
It appears that if I am eating something too hot, too cold or too fast, I get terrible pain in the esophageal area, where you would have heartburn, but more of a cramping feeling. I have to stop eating for about a half hour and then try again, really weird feeling?
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Stacey

heartburn? hiatial hernia?
ENT Man has me eternally on Nexium, and I am not sure if the thing you describe is part of it, or if it just that he believes the coating on the esophagus will help reduce chances that cancer will come back.
I DO get a cramping feeling in my neck (I cannot pinpoint to the esoph) from time to time and it is painful, as you describe. I can also not say that it is eating-related as it occurs at odd times. My suspicion is that it is hydration-related and that I need to be paying more attention to that aspect of my diet.
Maybe it IS heartburn, and maybe you should be thinking about an over-the-counter or even prescription type of thing, like the Nexium I take or Prilosec or some such? Worth asking the doc about.
Take care,

Thanks for your comments.
Haven't asked the doctor, wanted to start with you all.
Started about 2-4 weeks ago.
Location: sternum area
Only occurs when eating, particularly hot foods (temp wise)or too fast, too much
Pain versus the feeling of heartburn.
Pain enough to make it noticeable to others and to have to stop eating & move around side to side to make the pain stop. (Why this would work, I don't know it seems to be a physical response)
It goes away if I stop eating. If I wait 20-30 minutes all is well.
Its not a huge deal, just curious if anyone else had the same thing.
Thanks again,

Hmmm. That kinda sounds like how I started out with my swallowing problem
before my cancer when I had to have my first stretching. (absolutely nothing to do with cancer just food getting stuck). Does it ever feel like stuff is getting stuck there? I'd feel that spasam feeling and need to move around. I think it was helping get the food unstuck. Eventually it then was trouble with bread, meat and French fries were like killer. They wouldn't go down.0 -

As long as I remember to eat slowly when eating hot or cold foods, it isn't a problem.
Thanks for checking!!

Can’t say I had that problem, but did have some problems at first with a hiatial hernia just a really bad pain right at the bottom of the esophagus, sent me to the hospital because the pain was so bad.
