Hi , my mom has been diagnosed with lung cancer and had a tumor removed from the brain . she was doing well but recently they found some back fractures and put her a long lasting pain pill oxycotton 40 mg. also new pet shows new growth in the lungs and gall stones . mom is in alot of pain from the back and the gall stones but the medication is making her do nothing but sleep and she is losing her mobility . the oncologist never even told me they found gall stones but after reading a copy of the results myself i addressed it with her primary . He is very good but said with everything else going on that unless an infection occurs no one will touch her. She is not eating and is having trouble walking at all . My sister wants her off the pain meds or at least cut down because she thinks thats the problem with her mobility , but both doctors want her on them. I am torn I dont want her to suffer but i dont want her to fad away before her time is up . She does seem to be giving up . They want to start her on taxotere on monday and I plan on asking the doctor flat out whats going on and what to expect . Any advice or similar experience would be greatly appreciated . Wishing all a happy and healthy new year.

kello, Sorry you had to come here. Do you trust the drs, or do you think another opinon is needed. I know the pain meds will cause constipation and I know the drs know this. You might want to ask why they won't reduce the meds. If you don't get the answers you need then you should get a 2nd opinon. I wish you and your family well. Lori

Thanks Lori I am going to question the doctors regarding the pain medication. I have asked her primary and he agrees with the oncologist however no one seems to be addressing the gallstones that are adding to her pain . Thanks for the advice Jean

I ask for a copy of every report for every test and scan I get even a cd for my scans it helps I read each one then ask questions at my follow up and if you want a second opinion your not running around trying to collect all the info you already have it on file

I do the same thing with the
I do the same thing with the scans and the copies but it seems when I read them and ask questions the doctors seem bothered by it . Example the last ct scan showed gallstones and they never told us so I questioned the doctor as well as her primary because she was complaining of pain on her side and back . Why are the gallstones not be addressed and could that be causing her pain ? They both told me she had to much else going on and that noone would touch her unless there was and infection or obstruction . Has anyone ever experienced that ? I dont know if they are giving up on mom, I certainly won't . I did tell the Dr. he has many patients and I have one and I will continue to ask questions and be informed to protect my mom and if that bothers him too bad . He backed off and said sorry . I just want her to have the best quality of life possible and I just need to Know what to expect if she is dying to make her life as easy as possible . Also they just started oxygen. Any advice would be appreciated
