When will it all end??
I wonder where all this will end.. In March I had an abnormal mammo and had to have a biopsy came back with DCIS stage 0 grade 2 ER+ PR-, so I had a lumpectomy on my left breast in June followed by radiation treatment, I can not take tamoxifen as I have a history of DVT so my onc said we just watch and see. I had my first 6 month check in Nov, I had a MRI of both breasts. I got a call 3 days later to say they had found an area that needed to be checked by biopsy in my right breast. So I had a wire guided biopsy and the results showed DCIS & ADH, so I had another Lumpectomy, got the results back from that and it shows DCIS grade 3 and a micro invasion, my onc has said I now have IDC stage 1 ER+ PR- I am to have a BMX in March but my onc and breast surgeon both say they need to do SNB and we will not know if chemo is needed until after the BMX & SNB. I do not want any reconstruction, I just hope that after the surgery in March this nightmare will be over...
thanks for letting me vent.

similar nightmares
Kezzie,
I understand the nightmare feeling. Bad news after bad news after bad news. Most of 2010 was like that for me: March mammo showed something that needed a biopsy, then a surgical biopsy (aka lumpectomy). diagnosed in May as DCIS stage 0. Get ready for radiation. But wait, there's more: I had to go back for a follow-up mammogram since the normal pre-surgery mammo wasn't done in my case. Dunno why. But they found a tumor about 1cm. So that was removed in a second lumpectomy with sentinel node biopsy. clean margin and no node involvement: YAY. Radiation scheduled. But wait: there's more. A baseline mammogram to distinguish swelling from various lumpectomies and future radiation finds a "suspicious area of calcification." I was advised to get another biopsy, then called at 4pm July 3rd and was told everything was cancelled, and I would be consulting with radiation oncologist and surgeon the following week. At that point, they recommended mastectomy, since my breast seemed to be generating suspicious areas. I opted for the reconstruction, and in August I had the mastectomy/reconstruction. No cancer was found in the tissue, but there were some cells that had started to change. So it was the right decision.
My Christmas present to myself was a nipple. I'm recovering from that surgery now. I'm tired, too, of doctors finding more and more things...and of the nightmare not ending. I'm feeling disfigured now, but I know that in a few years, the scars will have faded. If your MDs feel you can wait until March for SNB, the chances of it spreading probably aren't that high. Let me know if I can give you more info on my case....it sounds similar to yours. Keep positive; I know it's hard when its seems you don't get a break, but it's important for you (but you know that already!).
hugs--

If you don't mind, is this a new cancer or a recurrence?
