I am a grandma WOOOHOOO
I used to post alot here, now I lurk from time to time.
I was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer in 3/2003. Had chemo/radiation, surgery with ileostomy, another surgery to reverse ileostomy, more chemo, DIARRHEA for 18 mos. and when I couldn't take the DIARRHEA anymore I had a colostomy done and haven't looked back. It was a tough decision, but has improved my quality of life so much.
My kids were 14, 18, and 21. My daughter was a senior in college. She married her high school sweetheart 4 years ago. They had a baby girl on 12/8, a beautiful baby girl named Isabella Maureen. We couldn't be happier.
My boys were both in high school when I was diagnosed. The youngest was only a freshman. They have now both graduated from college. My oldest son gave his college sweetheart a beautiful diamond last week. We will now start to plan another wedding.
Hy husband has been my rock through all of this and I couldn't have done it without him.
When I was diagnosed and when I was so sick from treatments, surg. etc. this site was amazing. Everyone one here helped me so much to get through it all. I never thought I would get better. Thank you all for all your help.
I think of you often and pray for those still struggling with this horrible disease.
I just wanted to share my Grandma news.
Maureen

Hey Mo!!!!
It is always so wonderful to hear from you my yankee friend! I love that you "lurk" and post to show your long time survivorship and wish more of the others would do the same.
As I said on the other board I will always remember talking to you on the phone for the first time in Austin @ CP3 in 2006 and you laughing at my southern accent. It always makes me smile when I remember it.
You have a wonderful Holiday Season with your family Grandma and thanks so much for sharing!

Awesome
That is such awesome news. You better enjoy that little one because they grow up so fast. We just celebrated our granddaughters first birthday tonight. Oh yipppee. That is God's gift to man, another child. Give Mommy, Daddy and baby a big kiss from me.

Congrats Grandma
Congrats!
Thanks for sharing with us. My kids were 15, 17, 20 and 23 at my dx just over one year ago. (High school freshman, senior, college junior and college grad.)
I'm looking forward to grandkids one day, and seeing my youngest graduate from high school, and eventually college, just as you have. Last year my son graduated from high school, and this spring my daughter will graduate from college. I'm thankful to still be here for these big events. Hopefully one day I will be like you, and also be a grandma! Enjoy Isabella!0 -
Congratulations!!
Congratulations, Maureen! What a wonderful holiday gift!
Thanks also for your 'recap' -- I know your story will continue to bring hope and joy to many on this board.
i remember you befriending me on this board -- almost 8 years ago. You were such a support.
My boys are home for Christmas -- 18 and 20 now (they were 10 and 12 when I was diagnosed). I'm not quite ready for grandbabies yet! (still haven't trained the boys to put the toilet seat back down) but I look forward to weddings and babies in the future!
Love,

congratulations
Hi Maureen,
Congratulations on your new granddaughter. I also rarely post, but occasionally lurk. Like you when I was diagnosed in 2004 I had young children. The three youngest were 12, 14 and 16. Although I am still in treatment and have been for the last 6 1/2 years I am happy to say that I have seen many graduations from high school and college and have had 3 new grandchildren and have another on the way. Grandchildren are the best. All I need is a smile from one of them and I am happier. Enjoy your granddaughter and happy holidays!
