3-drugs
I have 3b nsclc, had 22 weeks of weekly Taxol and Carbo only and 35 daily rads.
Doc says a weekly regimen of chemo in lieu of the 21 day will have less side effects and does not "slam" the body. Related or not, i did go through the chemo with a breeze. But I did not have the Avistin. I thought Avistin was designed more for small cell cancer?

Taxol, Carboplatin, Avastin
Good am Donna,
Today is the first to read though some of the comments and yours was one that got my attention. I didnt have Rad. nor Surgery, but I am on Taxol.Carb.and Avastin--My treatment stated on Oct 4, every three weeks, My first C-Scan showed my tumors shrinked over 50%. Last Friday I had my bloodwork and another C-Scan, Monday when we went for my 5th treatment we were told an additional am't of the tumor shrink again. My doctors and family were very happy, ME TOO!!! In three weeks I will be given my final treatment of the three, ( Had a total of 6 treatments) but will continue Avastin once a month to prevent tumors from returning and pating, this is a non-chemo ( Avastin). I also was stage 3.
Wishing your family the best but sounds like his treatment is going to work well for him also. I will keep your family in my prayers.
I also find going in 'chat' under CSN is very helpful. Try it one night when you have time.
Hope my info. was a little helpful,
By the way, Im with a research and development team in south FL.
God Bless,

Thanks for writing me with your own experience with these 3 drugs. It is so good to hear about your positive results. It makes me hopeful that Gary will get better too. Thanks. Donna0 -

My wife also had those 3 drugs which she had one every 3 weeks for 4 treatments. After treatment the CT showed a 50% reduction in size as well. After 4 treatments of Avastin and an experimental drug (imetelstat) her Ct yesterday showed another 50% reduction and also showed some evidence of incresed lung area where the cancer had been. It worked well for her and hopefully it will for you as well. Don't forget, positive thoughts help very much.0 -
Stage IV NSCLC
March of 2010 I started chemo with Avastin Carboplaten & Taxol . I was scheduled for six treatments at three week periods . I Compleated 5 treatments , then went on with Avastin only , every three weeks . My last CT scan showed very small tumors left in my upper left lung & adrenal gland . I have only two more infusions of Avastin . This treatment worked well for me , I hope it will work well for your husband . Best of luck also keep a great attitude Art0 -
Hello Dapsterd. I too have 3b NSCLC. I'm 45 and thought I was way to young for this disease. How have you handled it? What was treatment like? Are you disease free?Dapsterd said:3-drugs

My wifes treatment started almost the same day as yours. She finished her final "long day" on 1/21. Additionally she is on a clinical study with CETUXIMAB. She takes this weekly.
She has had similar results with close to 85% of the tumor going away.0 -
Everything is OKBrisk said:Hello Dapsterd. I too have 3b NSCLC. I'm 45 and thought I was way to young for this disease. How have you handled it? What was treatment like? Are you disease free?
Brisk.... i was just discharged from Hospital after 3-week stay for strep-pneumonia in my right lung foe which the main tumor is located. I also have to do IV antibiotics at home for one month.
Lymph nodes now show no evidence of disease, so now my new doctors want to remove 2/3 of my right lung after I get better from the infection.
They say I will then be disease free!
We will see....best wishes...Dave0 -

Seems to me you're getting there to the home stretch. I was marked today, had port put in on last Monday. Now's time for the real challenge for me. I hope I can be as strong as you all are. It is good to know I'm not alone and there are people I can talk with while I fight this thing.0 -
Me Again, Please Answer!!!!!
Hi. Well, Gary only has two more chemotherapy treatments with the carboplatin and taxol. They won't do anymore because the chemo is messing up his body too much. He still has the tumor! The radiation shrank it 50% but they won't do anymore radiation on him.
They said they will give him the Avastin every 3 weeks to keep it at bay. They said they would CONSIDER chemo again if the tumor started growing again but seemed doubtful.
How long can he last this way? Please ? Anybody?0 -

Hi David
Hope all well and o.k. with you and your wife
Was just surfing the site and wanted to see if imetelstat is still effective? Is your wife receiving any more of the scheduled dosings or just being followed?
I am close to the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa and know they are very much involved in the trials.
Take care and talk to you later.
