recouperating slowly but better
and it has been as hard as I thought it would be, even though I was very lucky not to have the huge incision, I have to tell you, the 8 little ones hurt alot. Still not able to sleep more than 4 hours at a time. can someone tell me why in 2010, the cannot come up with pain meds that last long enough for you to get a full nights sleep? So it is take a pain pill, go to bed, wake up 4 hours later in pain, take another pain pill, wait an hour to feel better,go back to bed. I am tired.
My appetite is non existant, I am eating because I know I have to but nothing tastes good at all. But at least today I put a little makeup on and did my hair, I was really beginning to feel yucky and needed the boost! Not like anyone can see me but I feel better!
Oh about the no one can see me, I guess since this wasn't cancer, people don't feel the need to visit, and I have to tell you, it is pissing me off. I am still sore and stuck in the house, I am still lonely with everone at work all day, and damn it just because it is not cancer does not mean I don't need to see people. Is this being selfish? you only come to see when me when you think I am dying?
Yes, it is getting to me being stuck in the house, the weather here has been horrible, too icy to even have my husband take me out for a drive, cannot risk falling on the ice.
Ok, I am done whining now, thanks for listening!
Hugs,
Kathy

Hi Kathy
Glad that you are feeling some better, even if it is going slowly.
I can relate to the 'nothng tastes good'. I think a part of it is the meds. Try to get in lots of protien as they say that helps with the healing. I found peanut butter and mac and cheese were foods which actually had a flavor I could tolerate.
You know people are funny about visiting...am sure that they are feeling you need your rest...don't want to bother you...etc, etc. Give them a call and 'schedule' them in at your convenience! Am sure that there are lots who will be glad to visit.
It is not selfish to want company. But like so many things in life, we have to let folks know what we want.
Hugs and you know you can whine here any time!

Boy, do I hear you!
Kathy,
First, you hurt so much because of the work done inside - it's not the scar. Supposedly, the hernia repairs done laparascopically are more painful than those done with a full open incision. I guess the internal manipulations are more painful.
I was given Voltaren (12 hrs) for pain med, because I can't take the opioids. You might want to ask about that.
As for visitors - I was in the hospital for 5 days. My brother and sister-in-law came once, my sister not at all, and I had one other visitor. When I was in for my cancer surgery, people were visiting all the time - both hospital and home, but "only hernia surgery" - nobody comes to visit. Most people don't understand that this type of hernia surgery is major abdominal surgery, and not anything like standard, inguinal hernia surgery. Everyone assumes "hernia surgery - it's nothing serious."
I'd visit if I were nearby!
Sending lots of hugs and lots of empathy your way!

Kathy, I'm so glad you are
Kathy, I'm so glad you are feeling some improvement with all that pain but, sorry there is still so much. It sure sounds like you need to get out of the house, I hope the weather improves so it can happen for you soon! It will, it's still early for you to be getting out and risking getting hurt or not feeling well. Easier said than done, but try to relax and enjoy this time. I think your venting about the cancer thing is fine, you are not being selfish. If I was closer I would be there!
Wishing you smiles, Gail0 -
When I was recovering from
When I was recovering from surgery, I discovered that a good night sleep lives on the corner of Percocet Drive and Ambien Avenue. You might want to run that by your doctor before you try it. I can't remember if I did. I did not do that very often, but when I did it was lights out, see you for lunch tomorrow.
I guess I'm also guilty of thinking that hernia surgery is not that big of a deal. I know better now, which is good. At some point in the future I'll need it too.
Take vare Kathy. Hope the weather improves.

Awwww
Sorry you still are in so much pain. Don't try and overdo anything either because you had small incisions doesn't mean that something major didn't go on inside because it did. Wish we lived closer to one another because I'd come and visit with you. Hope you feel better soon.

It's okay to whine
Hi Kathy,
I'm sorry you're feeling so poor and down. It's okay to whine and vent out your feelings here- it's better for you to get it out than keep it bottled up inside!
I wish I could tell people around you for you- "go visit and/or call Kathy- she needs you and needs to know you care!" There... wish I could do it for real for you
Are you doing any journaling? I've never been someone to write in a journal or diary (except when I was 12/13 yrs old & then I threw it away cause I never wanted anyone to read it), but I HAVE been writing a prayer journal lately & it's been good for me. I've surprised myself with this, since I never liked to do it before.
I know you feel like people should be visiting you, but since they're not, why don't you pick up the phone and call THEM and let them know how much you'd like to see them. Sometimes people even think "oh I don't want to bother them- they're probably resting- don't want to wake them up, etc, etc." I know for a while no one was calling me because I was hearing just that... they didn't want to call at a "bad time" for me. My response was please DO call & I'll let them know if it's a bad time, but I really would like to talk to them!
Hugs my dear- this won't last forever!

Great idea Lisa! Hope you feel better soon. I was did pretty well with my Hernia Repair last February, so glad I got it. Take care and do pick up the phone. I am home all day if you need someone to talk to, just PM your number and I will give you a call!0 -
The meds make everything
The meds make everything taste chalk like to me. I find I am spicing things more then ever, especially salt. I like bananas and gatoraid, they make me feel better, especially after an evacuation on the toilet. I feel really drained most times after I sit on the toilet.
Eat Eat Eat is my advice.
Best Always, mike0 -

A little prayer because I care
I hope your pain is gone.
I was going to suggest watching a comedy but, you probably should do to much heavy duty laughing or lifting for that matter. I seriously hope you feel better each day. Just call up your friends and ask them how they are going. As soon as they pause just let them know you would love a visitor.
hugs
