    It will be ok JSR
I know how scary this diagnosis can be. I am a 32 yr old female who had stage 2 RCC. I am also a Kaiser patient (northern CA) and it sounds like the course of treatment was appropriate for the size of the tumor.

My mass was discovered Oct 2009 and since it was small (less than 1 cm), and since statistics show that there was a 70% chance the mass was not cancer, I chose the wait and see method. My follow up scan Oct 2010 showed a dramatic increase in size to 3.6cm. The I went through a biopsy to confirm, and once I had a diagnosis (Nov 12) a surgery date was set. The surgeon removed a 8.1mm mass 14 days ago. The pathology results came back yesterday and all margins were cancer free.

Kaiser does things a little different - they have urologists who specialize in RCC and they only refer you to oncologists if you need chemo and/or radiation. Trust your doctor and ask lots of questions. I am sure next week you'll be recovering nicely and you too will be cancer free!

It is now april 2025. How did you make out? When I read your post from years ago the first thought I had was GET A NEW NEUROLIGIST WHO DID HIS FELLOWSHIP IN KIDNEY CANCERS. The 3 choices you say you were given were dumb. It is now 2025. My 7.1cm cancerous renal tumor was discovered quite by accident. I bowl on several leagues, play tennis and pickleball and walk miles a day. Never a pain. My right kidney and ALL the cancerous tumor was robotically removed last Wednesday. I didn't give it another thought. Take tylenol when there is pain-which is minimum. My biggest problem this 5th day is swollen feet and ankles which hopefully return to normal as they are uncomfortable and don't fit my shoes well. I am 77 years old, a female with no living relatives to help out. BUT, I have a fantastic surgeon in Nashville and his great team so no worries. I hope all turned at well for you JSR. I really mean that. Hope at some point you got a grip and calmed down some. Stress helps NOTHING.
