Yes...
Can happen. Explanations provided to me were: first growth (of any/all hair) can sometimes be like a "false start"... Or, the hairs "don't hold" (weak/not kicked back in 100%)... Or, that initial "growth" can actually be what was stopped by the chemo, leftover. So, the actual new growth (which begins at the root) pushes out what had been "stuck"...
Hope this makes sense. Was a long time ago for me...
Kind regards, Susan0 -
Lashes
I am losing my eyelashes again for the third time! Not all of them, mind you, but they are very short and I lose a few everyday. Oh, I've been off chemo since October of 2009!! I'm seeing my onco today about my Arimidex side effects and am wondering if that's what's causing them to fall out again??!!??

Me too
Yes, I noticed this happening to me too. I finished with chemo back in January 2010. I stopped curling my eyelashes as they were coming out. My eyelashes are filling out again, thank goodness.

My eyelashes fell out twice, too. On the bright side, my hair is now almost as long as it was before chemo
Mine are still gone and I'm tired of it. I don't see any sign of them growing and there are big gaps between the 2-3 I still have. They thinned a bit during chemo, but didn't all go until recently (chemo ended 9/23/10).
My brother is on a medication for glaucoma (I forgot what it is). A side effect is his eyelashes have thickened and grown considerably longer. Interesting.
Has anyone had any luck with false eyelashes? I'm getting really tempted, but I want them to look natural, of course, not like false eyelashes. . .

I finished chemo (4 A/C 1 Taxol) Oct. 2009 and Herceptin Oct. 2010. Have lost my eyelashes 4 times but not all at once. Half will be long, half will be short. Everytime I try to use mascara, I lose more so I haven't worn it much. My fingernails are very soft and split so I have to keep them short. My toenails are still thick and lift. Oh what fun!0 -

I lost my eyebrows just towards the end of my chemo...November 2018. Came back at end of january 2019...nice and thick. now its falling off again. please help!
It has been a year and a half and my lashes are scant and my brows are thin. I remain hopeful that one day my system will get back in gear.
Be kind to yourself. Hugs,
Annie

Dont be alarmed if your eyelashes and eyebrows fall out every few months after chemo. My last chemo was 10/7/22. I completely lost my eyelashes and brows two weeks later. They grew back my Christmas and I thought that would be that. Low and behold they fell out again in March 2022. Grew back pretty quickly and fully. Move to end of June 2022 and here we go again. They all fell out again over the course of two weeks. Luckily they come back quick and the new growth is right behind the fall out. Its mid July and they are almost at full length again. In another thread someone suggested since they all fell out at once with chemo they are on the same growth and die cycle as opposed to being staggered from growing them in as a baby. Don’t be discouraged. We have all endured worse, but I didn’t want anyone to worried. It doesn’t seem to happen to everyone because this was not something people tell you when they hear you are getting chemo or had chemo. Much love
