I was just diagnosed today with Endometrial Cancer. I have an appointment w/ an gyn oncologsit early next week. My fear is this. I do not want a hysterectomy. Is there anyway around it? I have read they can do surgery and remove the area and tissue around it. Of course if it is early. I have so much information to process and I dont even know what to read. Im confused, and worried. Any answers will be very helpful.

    Dear Soocalcher:
    I am so

    Dear Soocalcher:

I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I don't know how old you are, but I assume you must be young if you do not want a hysterectomy. There are two ways to have a hysterectomy. There is the standard method (cutting) and there is the new Da Vinci(?) way. I had mine the old standard way. Although I got a hysterectomy because of problems I was having (not cancer), it wasn't until afterwards that they diagnosed me with cancer. I was 45 at the time.

Of course, this is a difficult decision which you should make. You should not be pressured into surgery or no surgery. Please make a list of questions to ask your doctor. And if it doesn't feel right to you, get a second opinion. Also read some of the older posts here. A lot of ladies here have a lot of great information.

After my hysterectomy, the doctors went back in (another surgery) for staging. I am glad they did. They removed some other stuff and lymph nodes. They had found nothing else so I had some peace of mind. I did have preventative chemo and three 3 brachy radiations.

If you do not want a hysterectomy, you may want to request a CT/PET Scan. Also, did they take a CA125 on you? You did not say how you were diagnosed.

My best to you. Comforting thoughts your way.

1st let me tell you how
1st let me tell you how sorry i am i will keep you in my prayers 2nd off i know how you feel i did not want to have a hysterectomy either because i wanted babies i had sufferd misscarriages and i wanted so badly to have a baby so the very thought of having a hysterectomy was not ideal to me i didnt want to, how ever i was earily states to i was stage 1 i was told.

the thing is i had so much bleeding and problams none stop at times i felt like i was gonna die and had to have transfuison of blood etc

my advice is do alot of research talk to your doctor and if need go see a 2nd doctor for his advice do alot of research

as hard as it is i believe it is best to have a full complet hysterectomy try to look at your Choices

out wight the cons and pros ,

the big let down is the fact we cant have a child and turst me i have delt with alot of issues many nights asking why me

the good thing is i have a good fighting chance to become cancer free im in remison now close to 7 months of remison at 5 years ill be cancer free there is always a chance and risk it can come back of course there is

but if you leave some or part of your stuff in u may be at a higher risk of its return you got to ask if its a chance you want to take risking its return

you should talk to woman on both sides i have hard some woman leaving part of there uertus or tube in so they could still have a baby or leaving a ovry so they could have eggs

so my advice is way the pro and con of it

its not easy to go in to this at all

for me my cut was very BIG and the surgery i had was hard but for others they can do it by way of very small cut and sucking it out

    prayers with u god bless

I am 25. I have had a lot of female problems the past two years and had about 4 D&c's over that amount of time. I also had a laprascopic surgery for some other reasons. My last D&C was really hard on me, and at my post op my DR informed me the tissues came back abnormal. So I had a biopsy and blood tests. I did have the CA125. Thank you for your responses. I have a read a lot of different things and plan on discussing this with my ob-gyn/onc next week.

I will also request a CT/PET scan. What exactly will that do?

If you have cancer, a PET
If you have cancer, a PET Scan will show all active cancers. A CT Scan can show tumor sizes, etc. Sometimes they do both together to get a thorough pictures. If you feel strongly about not having the hysterectomy, at least these tests can show whether or not you have cancer and if you do exactly where it may be located and the size, etc. This may help you make your decision.

If you had a positive biopsy, sometimes the sample taken could be the only cancer you have. Also, was your CA125 elevated? Anything below 35 could be considered normal. Although there are things that can elevate CA125 other than cancer.

    My best to you.

    Thankyou Kaleena. I will
Thankyou Kaleena. I will discuss this next week at my next appointment with my Gyn-Onc.
My CA125 was elevated. That is what I was told. I was diagnosed with Cancer. However I was not told much. As much as I love my OB and the network he is in, I am seeking my own treatment else where. I now have an appointment with a Gynecologic Oncologist.

I am warming up to the idea of having a hysto, but I am very scared. I have read a lot of things about people have hystos and some people (with early cancer) using hormone therapy or just removal of the cancerous area and some surrounding tissue. So I will be discussing all this at my next appt.
