Hi Amber
I did not have the throat problem with my port. They didn't place a tube down your throat for anasthesia, did they? I would certainly tell your oncologist or you onc nurse about this when you go in Tuesday.
Best of luck on your chemo Tuesday. For me the first time was the worst time...only because I didn't know what to expect and I was scared to death.Ask a bunch of questions. That gives you more power in your treatment.

I agree, but I might add
I agree, but I might add call tomorrow. Best to know ahead of time if there is any reason for concern. However, the catheter from the port goes over the collar bone into the blood vessel near the neck. You may be feeling something from all of the manipulations.
Don't forget to ask for Emla cream to numb the port area before (future) chemo. It makes a world of difference when you don't have to feel them access the port.

i did not have general anesthesia, surgeon specifically said no tube would be in my throat. i'll ask the nurses at the oncologist, as far as the emla, since having a 28-staple abdominal surgery and a weeks worth of gas pains, needles are a breeze., just wouldn't want to be bumped on that area right now. thanks for the input. i plan on taking a book and my ipod for distractions for the chemo which will be a few hours followed by a 48 hr home infusion.

Port
I didn't feel anything from my port, I'd ask (like others have said before me) my onc or onc nurses about this.
I see a lot of people talk about putting some numbing cream on before having their port accessed, here, at Dominican they (thank you the powers that be)use lanicane, probably spelled wrong, but it's a nice shot that numbs the area before they access the port. Makes it really sweet in that there is no pain and no anxiety about any pain.

I had my port surgery over a week ago. My throat inside and on my neck is sore. My upper right back is sore with shooting nerve pain down to my elbow. When I raise my hand above my shoulder then I have pain from my elbow to my wrist.
Does anyone have a solution for the throat pain or nerve pain? I can't lay on my back for a minute let alone the 30 minutes necessary for my PET scan in 3 days.
Thoughts? Solutions?
