Chocolate chip cookies...

When I was about three weeks into the cisplatin and rads, a family friend sent over a batch of chocolate chip cookies. They smelled fabulous. However, taking a nibble off the edge of one of those suckers was like filling my mouth with parafin wax. No flavor at all. Hurt to chew. Stuck to my teeth. Felt like glass on my tongue. Couldn't even begin to swallow it. Choked and spit it out. Hurt even worse. Bummer.

I made my kid a batch of chocolate chip cookies this weekend, and you know what? They tasted FABULOUS! MMMMMMMMMMMM. Took the entire glass of milk to get one down (Okay, two down... or maybe three...) but it was well worth the effort. I'm baaaack!

Only took me five months. There is hope for us all!

    Careful, Deb.
In about a year, that mule will be going to Physical Therapy. :) I'm a year and a half out from treatment, and having a wonderful time finding foods that I can eat......(but along with lots of water).

Do they taste the same as you remember? My taste has changed for almost everything I eat. I am starting out new. I am like you a choclate lover, LOL and it doesn't quite taste like I remember. Five months is pretty darn good it took me all of seven to get anything like that down. My water intake has lessened a bit but still need some at every meal. Congrats on another step in your recovery

    Simple things
Ain't it strange how exciting little simple things like a cookie can excite us so much? I just love it. I ate an entire 1.5# T-BONE Sunday.

Best to ya Deb and send me a cookie,

    Enjoy!
Deb, isn't it great to find something you can eat! Chocolate chip cookie dance, for sure! I have been trying new things all the time. It's like a serious 'high' to find a food I can actually tolerate in my mouth, and then actually swallow. I'm still working on taste, too. Who knew you could get positively giddy adding eggs or something that common to your diet?

Hope you find even more things that you can eat soon!

Im so jealous. Lol. I tried steak again the other night. I wanted it sooo bad and I just kept choking. So I took it and puréed it in the chopper. No dice, it was like trying to swallow sand. I was so sad. :( Water doesn't go down well for me, and still hurts my tongue and makes my mouth feel drier. Thicker drinks seem to go down better. I do the coconut water instead of plain water. Can tolerate it better, plus I need the calories and potassium and electolytes anyway.

Glad you enjoyed your steak, Steve. :)

Actually, the scale did say 100lbs yesterday. I usually weigh myself a couple times a week. Let's see if it stays there. I don't have much hope, I am going to NY for my 25 high school reuinion thur-sat and I will be at the mercy of others for food. This usually doesn't work out very well. I will be bringing some of my protein drinks so I at least get some calories in me. The last time I was gone just two days and lost a pound. If I am not home, I don't seem to be able to get enough food in me. Takes me an hour to eat something, plus I'm limited to what I can eat, and it's hard to eat around people, I get nervous, etc. I'm not complaining. At least the peg is gone and I can eat some things. It has been a great improvement the last few months. Thank you for the prayers they are much appreciated.

    Cookie Monster
So happy to hear that you are able to enjoy chocolate chip cookies again!!! I absolutely love the smell of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies and hot brownies but gave up trying to eat them. I still have a hard time with desserts except pudding and ice cream. I have to drink so much to be able to eat them that it takes most of the pleasure away. I'm not really upset though because I am trying to stay away from too many sweets in hopes of saving my teeth for a while longer.

Life is still good though, I can eat a lot more foods then I could 6 months ago so I'm not going to complain. I still love to bake and I make my husband pies and other goodies every week, I just don't eat them.

Will join you in the Cookie "Monster Mash" :)

    Stay well,
    Glenna

    That is wonderful news, congrats.

I know early on I had problems with milk so I did a 50-50 of water and milk and when it was ice cold it worked better.

Enjoy the cookies and do the dance.

Way to go! Chocolate is on my list of not so great food for the moment lol! I keep trying & it can only get better. Maybe in cookie form it would go down better as the chocolate is not as pronounced. With a cold glass of milk sound's great! I love to bake & have been eyeballing a new recipie for them. Now I am motivated to give it a try!
    Enjoy!

    Stacey.
Yes, I am wearing the blue shoes tonight. I caved and bought a new dress. The black one was too big, really. I was afraid if I danced in it something could pop out. :( Hope I can eat something tonight and hope I have fun.

The new dress is purple. Purple bag and bright blue shoes. :)

I know it must be such a struggle for you. Don't forget, I moved back in with my parents. I saved so much there for almost a year. For the six months I had no income, any bills I paid came out of my savings. That was the deposit I had saved to put down on the house that fell thru because I couldn't get clear title. Thank God I wasn't able to buy that house. After the unpaid time of six months or so, my disability insurance kicked in that I paid for at work. So I had that until Unuum kept on me to file SSD. If I weren't in a house my parents owned I'd be in trouble. I am very grateful.

I am amazed how strong you have been. I am impressed that you have been working. It has been a goal for me to at least get back to part time. Trying to gain weight, make myself stronger, more flexible and hopefully more pain free.

Hang in there Dennis. Also sent you a PM back.

    How about macadamia nut cookies?
Honestly, I am glad to hear when others can get back to enjoy eating as in the past. My taste is not fully there, but I can now tell the difference. I have to dip my cookies in warm water or milk. It does not taste as good as before, but it is still enjoyable.
