Hi all,
On Oct 21st my husband has a RFA done on his chest cavity (2nd one) & a alcohol ablation done to a lymph node. The lymph node was located close to the aorta. In order to get to the lymph node the radiologist inserted a needle into his hip & up into his body to the lymph node. He did a biopsy of the node & then filled it up with alcohol. Now here is the problem, husband has a hard time walking or standing up because of pain in his hip & leg. He had a ct scan & a pelvic x-ray last week & nothing is showing up that would cause this pain. His oncologist thinks it may be a bruised nerve.
Have any of you ever heard of this before?
Thanks
Jeannie

    I am no help
I am no help, but I am curious about this alcohol ablation.

I have three para aortic nodes with cancer. I'm having trouble getting anyone willing to do anything other than chemo (which I am on and responding well to, with a big CEA drop).

Can you tell me more about alcohol ablation - I haven't heard of it before.

They could only access one of my nodes for a CT guided core needle biopsy. Mine are really close to my spine (in between spine and heart). But your post makes me think maybe they could get to the others taking a longer path, if I could find some sort of treatment.

    alcohol ablation
    Hi,
The radiologist used alcohol ablation on the lymph node because it was very close to the aorta. He did not want to risk any other type of radiation.
He did a ct guided biopsy first to make sure it was cancer, then he filled the lymph node up with alcohol. The radiologist said he had been using alcohol to kill cancer in lymph nodes since around 1990.
From what I have read on the web this procedure is commonly used for thyroid and neck cancer. Do a search on google for alcohol ablation for thyroid cancer & that will pull up some information.
We will not know the results of this procedure for a couple of months.
I hope my husbands leg & hip will be back to normal by then.

    Thanks Gail,
    He is feeling

    Thanks Gail,
He is feeling much better now since the doctor put him on pain medication.
We think a nerve was bruised during this procedure & that is what is causing his pain.
