Update on my niece

My niece was supposed to have a colonoscopy yesterday but had a violent reaction to the liquids the night before and was rushed into Accident and Emergency at the hospital. My brother and family spoke to the Consultant today who advised them that apparently she has a large mass blocking her colon and it is too far up for them to treat completely. She is still in hospital and is scheduled to have surgery to remove as much as the tumor as they can, and a hysterectomy - I'm not sure if they plan to do it at the same time. My brother actually isn't too coherent and I can't quiz him, but I understand from my cousin that my niece is calm. They are giving her 5-7 years survival - chilling to hear but I thought yesterday that she was imminently facing death as she was writing out her will regarding her baby. I was prepared to catch a plane to England today, so hearing 5-7 years is a brighter light and gives me HOPE - I have a ticket for January.

Thank you
Thank you both so much for your kind thoughts and wishes. That really, really helps. She just visited my daughter and husband here in the States when her baby was 5 months old, so my husband and I went up to see them both of course and I've put together a video of their visit and put it on youtube for friends and family. Its been quite therapeutic but makes me feel so teary when I see her so young and vibrant and yet probably at the time this awful disease was harboring in her system. She did mention some sharp pains over her uterus and feeling a bit bloated. We all felt it was probably related to just having a baby and nursing, but I wish I had been more emphatic about having it checked than I was. Hind site.... as they say.0
