Blankets for patients--I need your bright ideas!
I would like to make a label with a catchy phrase (like "layers of love" but that's taken) and also include a little inspirational message. So, while I am good at finding links for you guys, I am not nearly as creative as most here and I definitely need suggestions!
You can see how I am making them at:

I received a Prayer Blanket
A group of women at St. Alexander Catholic Church in Villa Park, Illinois, Phone: 630.833-7730 make prayer blankets specifically for an individual.. Call the parish and ask to have Helen Knudtson call you or ask for her number (I don't want to give it to you on this network - or private message me and I will give it to you. If you talk to her, mention my name JANELLE from Park Ridge, IL.
The blankets are made of fleece. No sewing. It is 2 pieces of fleece that have ends that have been cut. You tie the ends together. Each time it is tied, a prayer is said. They say that as you hold the blanket, YOU ARE COVERED IN PRAYER. With the blanket comes an information sheet, and many printed prayers. One paper saying I Said a Prayer for You Today had all the signatures of the women who tied the knots. Another paper had Footprints, a story that always makes me want to cry. Another paper with flowers ad butterfly around the edges has a statement, Give your troubles to God, He's up all nigh anyway!
I had a Healing and Keeping Prayer. Another one was Our Lady of the Smile, Pray for Us. Another one, Trust in the Lord. Another one, Jesus, Help Me!. Another one, Salve Regina. Another one, Memorare.
I was so touched when my girlfriend gave me the blanket and all the prayers. She requested that one be made for me.
It is wonderful...what you are doing. It is a double whammy. Not only will your good deeds bring you joy and happiness, but it will make the chemo patients feel SO SPECIAL. I know I always get excited when I make someone's day.
Lots of Hugs,
Janelle0 -
Awesome Project!
What you are doing is great and I'm sure the blankets will be so appreciated. I'm not creative either so all I can come up with for your label is "Warm Fuzzies" and that's probably either stupid or already taken!
Good luck with your project. Hugs, Sally0 -

if you are inclined to go the religious, yet non-denominational route, there are some Bible verses that use 'Comforter.'
But, if it's the "Midvale Ladies Lunch Auxillary and Mah Jong Club" or something along those lines and prefer something without a religious bend to it...a good alliteration is ideal. Words like... comforter, comfort, care, cancer...blanket, believe, blessing. I'd stay away from chemo and poison though.
But hey, any combination, as long as it comes from your heart and the blankets are made with love, will do the trick.
Nobody gave me no stickin' blanket during my chemo days...I feel gipped.0 -

What a beautiful idea! All
What a beautiful idea! All I can think of is "Blanket of Love" and the only quote I can think of is "I can do this". Signed by all the lovely ladies that made it. I would be more than happy to be surrounded by it's warmth during chemo.

Ok, I made 2 more tonight,
Ok, I made 2 more tonight, but now I'm pooped. All of the suggestions are so awesome (you ladies really are incredible), but I think "Warm Fuzzies" may have to be it as that just cracked me up. I love it!
Can I iron on labels because I just can't sew? Ideas again?
Thank you all soooo much!0 -

That is so sweet that they do that!
But I have bought the fabric and am planning a blanket party to rope some friends into helping. I wanted to get pretty good at making them before the party so I can feel confident demonstrating. My blankets are just single fleece though as I thought they would be lighter weight to carry around and not too hot (I'm in Louisiana).
But thank you so much! I will keep you ladies in mind Janelle for the future and maybe someone else will be inspired to use them now.
I am already having fun just picking out different fabrics--there are so many cute designs. I got the idea from a sweet elderly lady who has leukemia--one of my infusion "roomates." She comes to the center with a fleece blanket, a travel pillow and a portable DVD player with headphones. She is so adorable! Anyway, I wanted to steal her fleece last infusion because it is always cold in there and they will bring you a blanket if you ask, but they are always busy as can be and I hate to bother them. So now I'll have my own fleece and my other infusees (is that a word?) will too!0 -

can't sew...
What about using a thin colored Sharpie and handwriting it in the corner of the blanket? Or would it bleed through? Or maybe hand sew just two sides of the label?
A friend made me one of these blankets last year when I was going through chemo and I love it so much! What a wonderful thing you are doing! Blankets are great for the chemo room, it is cold in there (when you're not having a hot flash)0 -

What a wonderful thing to do. Thanks Cynthia. How about blanket4u, love4u, just4u, or just the symbol of a heart, or the symbol for breast cancer, love blanket, or snuggle? I will try and think of some more. My brain isn't awake yet.
Thank again,

What a wonderful project!!
What a wonderful project!! Even with the warmed blankets I'm usually cold as soon as the "warm" wears off.
I use Mighty Mend It for many of my "sewing" needs.

I have been using-up old yarn by knitting/crocheting blankets for the Children's Hospital, but this is a great idea!! I love the "warm fuzzies" name. Would you mind if I "steal" your idea?
Iron-on or glue labels won't stretch and move with the fleece. I would use a fabric pen - you can find them at most craft/sewing stores. The color wears like iron.0
